Hello all
I got a bargain on a TV with 3 years warrenty(mastercare stuff) at currys yesterday.
They have a Neovia 42in Plasma for £999.99 its new on the market but after looking at specs its better than a lot more expensive models
http://www.neovia.biz/ model number NEOPL-4200ES
if you change the site to english then go to products then plasma screens you will see the spec ect Its not HD ready however it has some gadets that make it as close as it will get without having to pay the fees sky will charge to use it lol, besides full covarage of HD will take few years so i dont think its a big thing?
Then if you go to currys website you can put in promtional code

The TVs not that great, you can pick up a big name plasma (like panasonic / toshiba / hitachi) for a similar amount these days. The picture quality on this is not that great when viewed next to something like a Panasonic PW7 (available at richersounds for £999). Don't let the price tage fool you.0

Exactly. pw7 is excellent and you can grab one for £1000ish though you have to spent bit extra for accessorites like JSTech box etc for best picturechrisw79 wrote:The TVs not that great, you can pick up a big name plasma (like panasonic / toshiba / hitachi) for a similar amount these days. TAKE CARE all 'old' Plasma TV's will crash in price because HD (high definition) is the latest craze.. it also looks 100 times better.0

Hello all
I did go to richer sounds and looked at the Panosonic by the time i added on everything it needed to be ready to watch the price tag was at £1499 so 50% more for much the same specs doesnt seem like a bargain?
I wouldnt be fooled by a big name tag at a cheaper price there is always a hitch.
I did look at HD and after long chats with the so called experts it seams that only 1 sky channel will have it next year then the others will follow suit over a few years I have seen the HD demo and watched the TV I got at the same time the difference was so marginal i couldnt warrent the extra £500ish it would cost maybe my TV isnt that important to me lol
So if your looking for style on a budget Go with the offer I found as no-one has found anything cheaper thats home ready
Have fun

I still beg to differ. HD compared to a normal signal is so far apart that you should go and see an optician immediately! Sky will be bringing out 6 channels next year followed by quite a few more by the end of the year.
I don't think it's worth buying a HD plasma now if you're on a tight budget, but you shouldn't just go for the cheapest thing available. Panasonic in particular are known as one of, if not the best plasma manufacturers.Fact. You can buy a Goodmans plasma for next to nothing, but personally I've found inferior brands often deliver inferior quality, hence the price tag. Before spending £1k or even more on a TV, go and see the thing, touch it, see how it works and se if you like it, and more importantly, get them to play a normal tv signal into it (either a normal ariel dpending on what you have at home, or sky). Don't let them fool you with a copy of Finding Nemo or other cartoon based DVD, as they always look good.0 -
And if you must spend less than £1k total, take a look at ebuyer for their Haier at £950 (was cheaper so worth keeping an eye on).

I have already posted a similar warning in other cheap Plasma set threads, but these cheap sub £1000 - brands you have never heard of - deals should be avoided at all costs, this one included.
Im not getting into brand snobbery, its nothing to do with that, but this currently discussed set, along with the Aldi one, the Ebuyer one, the Time one etc etc all have resolution that is lower than the current UK broadcast !
So, as has already been stated by others, they are definitely not High Definition ready, BUT, even if you arent bothered about HD, its important to note that they arent even normal UK broadcast ready!. What they actualy are, are a cheap US NTSC spec set botched for the UK market.
This particular set has a resolution of 852x480, the 480 bit being the number of lines. The UK broadcasts PAL at 576 lines, so every image it displays will have to be squashed to fit.
If you are atall bothered about picture quality, avoid these sets at all cost.0 -
The best plasma deal on the web here, only 3 left (i bought mine earlier!):
