It was the early 80's for me too.
Maybe folk should go back to that way of life, fixing things rather than buying new.
It was the mid-to-late 70's when it started for me, and through to the mid 80's.
1980 is only one day from being in the seventies..."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

Is this a new rule
or one of those new age parents thingies. Me and my brothers used to be kept waiting in the car for hours as my Dad went scouring scrapyards. Well it felt like hours:rotfl:
When I was little I went into my friends house and wondered where the battery charger was in the kitchen. We always had a car battery charging on our kitchen worktop and I thought everyone did this:rotfl:
Oh the depravation:rotfl:
I loved going to Scrap yards and also looking through skips. it was exciting! and Dad was always fixing the car, I used to help. I loved it and once upon a time I knew loads about cars. all fell out of my head now, but it was the best fun, especially if you had to go all over the place looking for a part.......:rotfl:Nevertheless she persisted.0 -

My OH tries to fix everything, even when it is definately past the fixing stage. Our Dyson has had 2 new hoses, 2 sets of brushes and the handle has been glued, then glued again it is now totally snapped off so I have to vacuum without a handle, we are ordering a new handle soon. Its like Triggers broom from Only Fools & Horses.
Even though I laugh he has saved us a fortune over the years. Our washing machine was tripping the fuse box once and we got a repair man out. Oh was watching him like a hawk and he tried to persuade us to get rid of the machine and buy one of his re-conditioned ones. OH told him we would think about it and went straight to the local DIY shop and bough some kind of electical bit for £4 and fixed it.
See he is a good chap really:smileyheaBut these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.0 -

You did that in the 70's - things were expensive and time was cheap.
I can still bleed brakes - even now...
Ahem it was eighties for me too! I was 4 in 1980, I trailed around after my Dad welll pretty much my whole life! I think I still went with him in my 20's.

We fixed the tumble drier recently when the belt snapped. At one time, we would've gone straight out and bought a new drier.
Unfortunately, neither of us have a clue about cars. My dad's talents didnt rub off. The first thing he used to do when he bought a new car was go and buy a Haynes Manual for it. Do they still make them?Is it better to aim for the stars and hit a tree or aim for a tree and land in its branches :think:Loves being a Wonderbra friend :kisses3:
