Is this a new rule:confused: or one of those new age parents thingies. Me and my brothers used to be kept waiting in the car for hours as my Dad went scouring scrapyards. Well it felt like hours:rotfl:

When I was little I went into my friends house and wondered where the battery charger was in the kitchen. We always had a car battery charging on our kitchen worktop and I thought everyone did this:rotfl:

    Oh the depravation:rotfl:

It sounds like we grew up in similar households. I often came home from school to find our car in several pieces :rotfl:

You did that in the 70's - things were expensive and time was cheap.

I can still bleed brakes - even now...

There was a program on TV recently about child poverty in the UK and in one interview there were two little girls sat in their kitchen. One was sat on a car battery and one on an upturned milk bottle crate.

My OH who was brought up on a fancy private estate in Wigan (I know that is a bit of an oxymoron) was looking on with sympathy and disgust and I just thought Ahh childhood memories.

It was the early 80's for me too.

Maybe folk should go back to that way of life, fixing things rather than buying new.
