hi all,
ive 26k in unsecured debt, trying to pay them £1 tokens at the moment as kicked off CCCS for our £1000 of mortgage arrears, which is 81k (have paid £900 of mortgage arrears since january paying at a rate of £300 p/m) all going good, old styling, cut back everywhere, i dont know how to cut back anymore with 3 kids. (alread buying value stuff)
my hub this week now gets diagnosed with hepatitis A, signed off for a month so far, not sure how long he will be off sick for. i work sundays and earn £80p/w. hub will be getting £72 ssp, a drop of £280 approx per week. so ****'s hit the fan now.
rang my one account mortgage, who have said they wont help us, as ive arrears, their payment inc interest is £720 approx. i get £169 child benefit and £140 tax credit p/m, ive £300 dd's which include council tax etc.
im really worried, no sick insurances, cant get any other benefits except perhaps council tax benefit.
one account have warned that if we default, it will be closed down and referred to RBS. cant see how we are going to eat and keep electric in meter next payday. only thing i can think is to get what salary we do get, paid into another account. so so very worried, trying not to let my hub see its really getting to me.

Is it possible that you could call tax credits & explain situation? Not sure if you could get increased payments but its worth a try.
Try running your income through one of the benefit calculators, there is one on this site, and yes. I would have my wages paid into another account.Tallyhoh! Stopped Smoking October 2000. Saved £29382.50 so far!0 -

hi tallyhoh,
rang benefits enquiry line yesterday.. no luck as we have more than £92 p/w coming in. also rang tax credits, they said that i need to estimate what my hubs yearly salary for 2008/2009 will be, taking into account my hubs loss of earnings... not sure what this is going to be, when he can go back to work, or if he will get O/T this year, so more use than a chocolate teapot. no help when you neck deep in debt with a mortgage. oh and looked into help with paying mortgage interest which exists.... paid when youve been ill for 39 weeks..... probably just in time to get repossessed. feel like we've hit a brick wall doing 80mph.0 -
I know this is nt much help but have you talked with CCCS about your change in circumstances?...0

oh Melie, i really feel for you i was in this situation a few years ago, i was off work over a year with a heart condition, was only getting incapacity benefit, and having to buy 5 perscriptions a month - dont know what the governments playing at, i was too ill to work but with no money had to buy my tablets,
anyway im sorry for your situation i know this may not offer any help but do you have any family who could help you in this time
....thats all i could do when i was ill, luckly my dad was in a position to loan me some money to keep the roof over our head but even now we are only just getting back on our feet and we are 3 yrs down the line
the only other thing i can say is if they start proceedings on you for your house this would probably be a few months down the line and hopefully you could get back on your feet and make a new agreement with them even if they get a suspended possesion
sorry if this is not what you want to hear or you dont think this is helpful at all just suggestions
I understand the concepts of cooking and cleaning
........ I Just dont understand how they apply to me!0 -
i havent yet no. i think i will though, although they will not take us back until we have no arrears on mortgage, as this is priority debt. we were on track for paying the arrears back by june. one account said i need to cancel all my dd's, but some of these too are priority. i need the car insurance, have to pay the council tax water, life ins. gas and electric are both key meters, obviously need to pay with cash or card for these. and then interest on mortgage wont stop, and the one account take £300 off the balance on the 1st each month. and then theres small problem of foodI know this is nt much help but have you talked with CCCS about your change in circumstances?...0 -

glad to hear youre on the mend. hopefully my hub wont be off so long, but its like weve gone 10 steps forward and 50 back. no family to bail us out, hubs parents retired, mine are just about to pay 30k off mortgage, leaving them nothing but salaries to live on, and definately nothing to lend me. doing all we can really. havent be able to buy my kids clothes as it is for 6 months, just got a few bits this month out of my hubs O/t before he was diagnosed. just cant bridge the gap. thought about me getting an evening job, probably then would lose tax credits though.0 -
Hello Mellie
The only other thing i can suggest is if CCCS wont offer any real help is to contact the other free advisory bodies (CAB) to see what options you have available....your husbands illness is a very real change in circumstances which although unwelcome at least means your reasons for seeking agreements are genuine plus it can only be a positive thing to have some expert knowledge onside.
Sorry i cant be of more help and i wish you and your husband good wishes0 -
Hi Mellie - so sorry to hear of your situation and haven't got any advice really - just wanted to say not to forget freecycle for the kid's clothes. How old are they? On my local freecycle I always see bags of clothes up for grabs, so for now maybe you could get them off there/car boots which would take some of the pressure off having to keep the kids in clothes.
Take careWhen you were born, you were crying and everyone around was smiling. Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying! :rotfl:0 -
my kids are 9 , 3 and 1, so grow fairly quick. although freecycle and bootsales are fine for some, i just wouldnt make my kids suffer for our misterminas. after all i receive almost £300 every 4 weeks with child benefit and tax credits. i only buy stuff from asda tesco primark etc anyway. ive past a lot down from my 3 yr old to 1 yr old, but as my 3 yr old gets more active she tends to wear the clothes out stains them so only good for the bin. going to have an ebay sale soon i think. have nowhere to turn right now.TurnaroundSue wrote: »Hi Mellie - so sorry to hear of your situation and haven't got any advice really - just wanted to say not to forget freecycle for the kid's clothes. Our tescos have got two pairs of little girls leggings in the sale for a pound which would fit the 3 year old and the baby.0
