The Great “Best No-contract” Deals Hunt

What's it about?
Often the best MoneySaving deals on anything from financial products to mobile phones require a contract of e.g., six, 12 or 18 months. While this is fine for home-owners not planning to move in the near future for those that are and, especially, for those in short-term accommodation this provides a dilemma.
So I thought I'd call upon MoneySavers' wealth of knowledge to dig out the best deals where no contract is required; phones, broadband, insurance and more.

Pay as you Go car insurance from eCar Insurance
Councils normally offer Pay as you Go home contents insurance for tenants.
There is this comparison engine, that you can sort by minimum contract term, that gives you a list of broadband providers offering PAYG on a monthly basis.

Vodafone pay as you talk has an amazing feature called Stop The Clock where you pay speak up to an hour but only pay for the first 3 min. Important to remember: this is off-peak only, from 19:30 till 7:00 and all the weekend.
Another one is O2 pay as you go. If you top up £15, £20 or £30 a month, you can get 150, 200 or 300 free min the month after.
Hope this will help someone save money.Be nice, life is too short to be anything else.0 -
Virgin Mobile 300 x-net minutes. 300 x-net texts.Free Voicemail. Sim Only. £10 a month paid by d/d. But no contract. Available only to existing Virgin Media Customers. Handy if you have a spare phone.

There are quite a lot of internet providers offering "no contract" broadband. These are just a few examples, not a complete list. I'm assuming "no contract" to mean 1 month contract and/or 1 month notice.
PlusNet
1 month contract for all plans on this page
http://www.plus.net/residential/broadband/?resindex=tab_broadband
* connection is £40 unless you're transferring from another ISP and does not include a router/modem
IDnet
1 month minimum for the plan on this page:
http://www.idnet.net/solutions/homepayg.jsp
(includes 1Gb download allowance)
* connection is £47 unless you're transferring from another ISP and does not include a router/modem
Names.co.uk
30 days minimum for all plans on this page:
http://www.names.co.uk/adsl.html
(all include 1Gb download allowance)
* you pay £70.50 if you terminate within 12 months to cover setup costs but get a free router and free setup on most tariffs
NewNet
1 month minimum for all plans on this page but you need to add £1 per month to the price you see as the monthly rate they display is based on paying annually:
http://www.newnet.co.uk/broadband/home.php
* connection appears to be £39.99 unless you're transferring from another ISP and does not include a router/modem
Prodigy
1 month minimum for all plans on this page but watch for £39.99 disconnection charge unless transferring out to a new provider
http://www.prodigynet.co.uk/menu.php?page=adsl&home=true
* connection is £39.99 unless transferring from another ISP and does not include a router/modem
Close but no cigar:
3 month notice - https://www.bethere.co.uk/broadbandcomparision.do
3 month contract - http://www.freedom2surf.net/adsl/homeuser.php
Sorry if there are any mistakes!

Here are the "no contract" contract options from each of the big networks
(ie a 1 month contract length - but you pay monthly by direct debit instead of by voucher)
All minutes and sms mentioned are anytime any network as far as I can tell
"No contract" contract mobiles do not usually include a handset - you receive a sim to use in your existing phone (in most but NOT all cases you can buy that network's cheapest pay as you go phone and put the sim in it)
Orange
Example plans:
£15 per month (200 mins & 300 sms)
£35 per month (1000 mins & 400 sms & 250mb browsing)
1 month contract
http://shop.orange.co.uk/shop/paymsim
Virgin
Example plans:
£15 per month (300 mins & 300 sms or 150 mins & 1000sms)
£30 per month (750 mins & 750 sms)
1 month contract
http://www.virginmobile.com/vm/simCardOnly.do
o2
Example plans:
£15 per month (200 mins & 400 sms & unlimited o2 to o2 calls)
£30 per month (1200 mins & 1000 sms & unlimited o2 to o2 calls)
1 month contract
http://shop.o2.co.uk/tariffs/sim_only
T-mobile
Example plans:
£15 per month (200 mins & 800 sms)
£30 per month (800 mins & unlimited sms)
1 month contract
http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/mobile-phones/sim-card/pay-monthly/
Vodafone
Example plans:
£15 per month (150 mins & 500 sms)
£25 per month (500 mins & unlimited sms)
1 month contract

Various car insurance companies offering either no contract or where you can choose the length of cover:
Insurance by the month
for ladies: http://www.eladydriverinsurance.co.uk/
for gents: http://www.ecarinsurance.co.uk/ (credit to saintscouple for posting this link originally)
Insurance by the day
http://tempcover.com/TempCover/tcvCarIns.aspx
From 2 weeks to 1 year cover
https://www.hertsinsurance.com/shortperiod.php
From 1 to 28 days cover
http://www.theaa.com/insurance/short-term-car-insurance.html
http://www.insuredaily.co.uk/features.html
http://www.norwichunion.com/short-term-insurance/
http://www.dayinsure.com/carfeatures.aspx
Worthy of a mention
http://www.norwichunion.com/pay-as-you-drive/
(I think an annual policy - but your car gets GPS tracked/bugged for free and you are billed a fixed fee plus the miles you actually drive! Special offers include letting drivers aged 18-23 to drive 100 miles "off peak" for free each month - ideal for cruising to the local retail park or street racing lol)

AOL Broadband have an offer called "Broadband Wireless Flexi" with no contract (and discounted rental for the first 3 months, if you stay that long!)
As far as I know it's only available by calling 0800 954 0340 - this is definitely a genuine and publicly available AOL number - it's even on the AOL UK site
1 month contract
£14.99 per month (£4.99 for first 3 months if signup by 29/06/2008)
£29.99 setup includes wireless router
(not sure if there's a disconnection charge)Mobilez

Three 3G Internet Broadband.
Not to be confused with `Internet` option, the broadband option for example, £10/month for 1000gb is useful and mobile.
Available via bluetooth on existing handset or get USB modemOrder of events: Banks lose our money -> get bailed out -> were inflating GBP to cover it -> now taxing us -> next will grab your funds direct -> things get really desperate to balance the books. What should have happened?: banks go bust and we lost our money much quicker0 -

£10 for 1 GB not 1000GB!
Otherwise, reasonably good.
No contract needed. Top up £10 when you need it.0
