Secure Netgear DG834GV2 - using Vista

I found a thread with the details of how to secure a Netgear DG834G (V2), it appears that its worded for XP, I'm using Vista so some of the things (like start run cmd) dont seem to apply as there is no run on the start icon. Is there a thread with an update for Vista on MSE

Thanks everyone

you can add run in Vista, in control panel IIRC

All you need to do is open up a web browser and log into the router and then set up the router as instructed - basically just change the default admin password, don't allow log ins from the internet and change the SSID/Enable WPA in Wireless Settings. No need to open Command Prompts and all that rubbish.

start, search cmd in vista, or you can customise the start menu, and add the run cmd back in. Or create a shortcut to cmd.exe, pin it to start menu, right click and run as administrator.

    Using a wired connection

    www.routerlogin.com
    admin
    password

    wireless
    wpa-psk/tkip
enter a password between 8 and 63 characters
    apply

Tell vista the same details, (encryption type and key) and you are done

So I dont need to mess about with mac addresses then, do I still need to paste a 63 character network key in - I have never used copy and paste before, stupid really but there you go.
I have already changed the SSID and router password, unticked Allow Broadcast of Name and ticked Enable Wireless Access Point and Wireless Isolation, I still have to change to WPA - if I have to use the Network key how do I copy and paste it, thanks for the very quick replies received

If I have got this wrong can you please list it in sequence, I dont want to mess it up and not be able to get online

    Thanks again

Control C to copy, control V to paste, or right click mouse.

you don't need to mess about with mac addresses, the long wpa key does the protection

If you've disabled broadcasting, you have to tick the vista box to connect to non broadcasting networks.

Suggest you use an 8 character word first, get it working, then move on to 63 characters

Do any changes with a wired ethernet connection, that is your get out of jail card.
