New Build

Our house is 5 years old and has plaster board walls. Any advice on how we hang heavy things such as shelving. We have tried specialist raw plugs but these didn't work. Apart from locating the battons how do we hang heavy things.

I guess it depends on the fixing you use, there are many different types. Take a look here for the screwfix range.

i've got a new build (1 year old) and hung my plasma using those plugs which 'crunch' up when you tighten the screw. Can't think of the name for the life of me though.

should have looked at the link above.. anchors.. knew they had something to do with boats.
  • What I did with my plasma telly was to draw around the outline of the mounting bracket on the wall, cut out the PB with my multimaster tool and insert what turned out to be 2 pieces of plywood to get the right thickness, these were fixed using standard rawlplugs into the real wall behind then I screwed the mounting bracket to the ply with normal wood screws made a really nice job too and all but invisible.

When I had to fit some kitchen cupboards I used smallish frame fixers to put the brackets up, these are plenty long enough to reach the wall behind, but before I fitted the brackets I used expanding foam to fill the void behind and stop the cupboards bowing into the wall, they are still up after 6 years.
The quicker you fall behind, the longer you have to catch up...
