Following up on Computer courses what other on-line courses are available, that give a recognised qualification. I'm not talking about the open university here but something that could be completed within 6 to 9 months by some one that works full time.

A plus is recognised, looks from this l,ink as if you can do it online.
However, as most qaulified people will tell you, certification and knowing what you;re doing are different things.
My best advice would be make the decision to build your own PC from scratch, and then research how to do it and buy all the bits, you will have a lot of fun, learn loads, and it will cost less than the course,0 -
Online based courses aren't worth the paper they're written on which will be glaringly obvious the first interview you get.0

not always true and many companies only send their employees online for courses these days so that cant always be true
- if its a recognised qualification, which A+ is, and you can study online then thats fine, but I agree that just having the qualification with no experience will be very obvious to an employer, though it could also demonstrate a willingness to learn, which some employers will be interested to see. 0 -
I feel this is a cheapness/quick fix thing. It makes the staff feel more valued and for company status you can claim all your staff have been trained up to at least XXX standard. No traveling, accommodation or real tutor. You get so much more from hands-on.... many companies only send their employees online for courses these days ....
In the org I work for, staff were offered free EDCL. Only 16% of the people who started, finished the course. Of the 16% some still did not know what they were doing and got their friends to help them out. Out of the 7??? modules 2 were done with an instructor and the rest were done online.
If you do an on-line/correspondence course, you have to have lots of self discipline. Most people find that the need a tutor or a set class to go to as it is harder for them to make excuses not to go or procrastinate.
A helpdesk colleague 2 years ago did this correspondence from the one the advertises on TV and most of the info was 10-ish years out of date and was not really deep enough. It did not help her get the job and she did not know enough for her to move on.
You can do the a+ hands on course in 4 days. Well you might as well do cheat sheets and pass that way and will save you about £1000. As you will learn to pass the exam questions.
To understand and be competent needs time and practice. Some of the best, cheapest and longest courses run colleges.GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time.
