I have just received some course information and details of the software I need. I don't really know much about this kind of software (hence the course). I think the packages they list are expensive so I was wondering if anyone knew of a free alternative that would be as good to the following :-

1. Adobe Photoshop or similar needed. Maybe GIMP ?

2. Macromedia Dreamweaver or similar web authorising programme

3. Macromedia flash or similar digital animation programme

Thanks

What kind of course? Would you be able to get a student discount? If you're technically a student you can get MS Expression Web for free which is Microsoft's equivalent to Dreamweaver and Expression Blend which is very roughly similar to Flash. I.e. designed for web interaction programs.

As an aside, no need to use the name "Macromedia" as it no longer exists at all. All the software you mentioned is Adobe.

Dreamspark Free (if eligible) MS programs (expression studio, visual studio and some others)

Also if you have a .ac.uk address you can get Office 2007 Ultimate (retail license) for under £40 from www.theultimatesteal.co.uk
