Dangerous parking - who do I speak to?

Options
Hi

Just wondering if anyone could advise me on who I might contact about a van which is always dangerously parked near my home.

It parks within a couple of meters of a corner which causes drivers to have to turn the corner without being able to see in to the street or if coming the other way, you have to go out futher onto the road to see past him to turn right.

Today, someone parked opposite him which made it dangerous to pull out onto that road as you couldnt see what was coming on the right AND you had to steer into the middle as you couldnt get onto the left hand side of the road.

I have witnessed two accidents now, caused by people not being able to see past this van when turning right. He is consistently much nearer the corner than the Highway code would allow.

I want to complain about this (I have no idea where this person lives as I only ever see the van).

Do I contact the local council or the local police or who? It is not a neighbour of mine, so I do not know the person. To be honest, I would like for someone official to have a word, so that he realises how dangerous his parking is for other drivers.

Can anyone advise?

Thank you

Trust me..... It's the police... you can ask the calltaker to make sure that they do not give out your details as the person reporting and they have to do this... I suggest you ring monday to thursday when they are not so busy and ring when the vehicle is parked up.. make sure you have the number plate details when you ring... they will more than likely just go and have a word with the driver which is normally enough... If you don't how will you feel if a child is knocked over and you did not make that call????

Hi I've had the same problem where I live, last year a boy was actually knocked down and nearly killed.

I rang the police on 6 seperate times and they just didnt bother doing anything. I also have seperate problem where morons park on the on the walk ways so people have to go on the road and walk around the cars. This on is own is on a safety risk as cars zoom around all the time.

Just really winds me up but what can I do as no ones bothered, when I ring the police they tell me it's the highways agency problem and then when I ring them they say it's the police's problem. I just feel like pulling my hair out sometimes.

I wouldn't bother wasting your time reporting it to the police call-centre. From my experience, you'll be lucky if they bother to log it, let alone actually send someone to look at it.

Instead, call your local police station during normal working hours and ask who is your "community beat officer/manager" - get their name and a contact number. Alternatively, find out when the next "meet your local bobby" session is - they often have posters in corner shops, post office etc. They usually have them every month or so. Once you manage to speak in person to a local bobby, there is far more chance that they'll keep an eye open for it next time they are on duty in your area, and then there's more chance of them taking action.
  • If he isn’t parked on double yellow lines and there aren’t any parking restrictions then there is nothing you can do.
If he’s is parked on the bend Then he’s causing an obstruction and can be told to move by the police.
Sometimes just after the bend double yellow lines finish, he’s probley just parked after they stop?

You can ring the highways department and tell them about him, or go for permit holders only if enough people complain about him.
The other things is the local paper and tell them about how dangerous the road is with people parking where they like, that always gets the council to sit up and take notice!

    Trust me it’s the police??????
The police will only come out if he’s causing an obstruction? by stopping traffic from getting past.
They are only interested if the tires are bald, or the tax disc is out of date, or a road traffic accident.
Phone your local copper and ask him to come and see you, tell him your concerns about a potential accident waiting to happen.
Tell him a child cannot see the traffic and will be killed sometime soon.

Ring the council, highways, and your local copper, also ring the papers saying death trap waiting to happen.

    Hi

Just wondering if anyone could advise me on who I might contact about a van which is always dangerously parked near my home.

You might like to look at this page, http://www.opsi.gov.uk/acts/acts1988/Ukpga_19880052_en_2.htm#mdiv22Leaving vehicles in dangerous positions
it refers to section 22 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 (c. 52).
If you believe that the vehicle is being left in such a condition then you should report the matter to the police for them to investigate. You might like to mention to them the Act and section of it that you believe is being broken and this might spur them into action. Give them the date and time of the parking, the exact location and the vehicle registration. Do this whilst it's parked if possible. It might be worth checking the vehicle to see if the Road Fund Tax is valid, because if it's not this might also spur them into action.
