Hand Luggage

I'm getting a flight to Edinburgh from Gatwick on Wednesday and will be taking with me a suitcase aswell as my Macbook Pro in it's case and a camera bag which is basically an equipment bag, in a small backback style containing my DSLR and a few lenses. I have no way of weighing up the hand luggage before I go to the airport and am a little worried about it. On the BA website it states the weight and size restrictions as one piece of hand luggage but my friend has told me they introduced a new thing which lets you take 2 pieces on board..a travel bag, and a laptop bag if needed.
Do you guys think I'll be ok with the 2 bags? Also, do I expect security to wanna put both hand luggage bags through security despite the nature of them and the damage it could do?

Assuming you are checking in the suitcase, you will have a small backpack and a laptop case which should be OK by the new 2 piece hand luggage rule.Do you guys think I'll be ok with the 2 bags?
Damage? ... Assuming you refer to having to put your camera bag/rucksack through the X-ray machine, the answer is yes, 100%. Thousands of folk take high end cameras, lenses and laptops on flights out of the UK as hand luggage every day and the laptop will need to come out of the bag and go through on it's own in a tray.Do I expect security to wanna put both hand luggage bags through security despite the nature of them and the damage it could do?

Unfortunately they will coming back, Gatwick still has the one bag rule!0 -
Thanks for that!
Although I've been warned about the x-ray machine and been told that I should simply tell security I have a laptop and they will take a look at it, then just pass it around the x-ray machine as opposed to through it..0 -
I did Edinburgh Gatwick Edinburgh yesterday and two bags are allowed. (I had handbag and briefcase - and had to take laptop out of case for the Xray)
Some weird shoe thing going on at Gatwick. Once through the security bit where they do the Xrays, you then have to put your shoes through a separate x ray machine. However, it didn't appear to be staffed, and some people just walked through?
Volvic - you do have to take laptop out of case, and it does go through machine0 -
Get a bag for all of them to fit in.
There's no reason you can't put a camera bag and mac into a small wheelie case and you can pick those up for very little.0 -

Don't worry about modern X-Ray machines, they are no more destructive than a ride along the belt at your local Asda's or Tescos.

Yes, but at least you'll only have one bag, which will get you through in any of the airports with a one bag rule.
Gatwick are actually ok with two bags:

provided the airline says it's ok, so you're grand with two.0 -
