Hi,
Is Windows Defender adequate protection for blocking and removing spyware? If not, what is the best - ideally free - product to do this?
Also, how does one run Microsoft's Malicious Software Removal tool?
Thanks!

It has come out very low on malware tests .
SuperAntispyware is better and free .

Thanks!
And how about Adaware from Lavasoft?0 -
Securing your browser will prevent nearly all malware from running/installing. See here for good advice.http://www.spywarewarrior.com/uiuc/btw/browser-sec-intro.htm#active0

Prevention is better than cure.
Don't get malware to start with!0 -
Adaware had a good reputation in the early days of spyware .Not used it since i switched to PC Tools Spyware Doctor and from that to SuperAntispyware . PC Tools i see are also now supplying a standard spycatcher free of charge .

Adaware seems to dislike vista (at least my vista) - I use spybot S&D as well as defender0
