Selling A Prize Draw Car

Hope someone can give me some advice.

I have been drawn out of a prize draw for a new Toyota Prius and have all the details and just need to arrange the insurance. The thing is I already have an ok car and as such I would rather sell the car and pocket the cash.

I really could do with this cash as soon as possible and since I have not paid a penny towards the car I can't be bothered to sell it privately and pay insurance on two cars.

Can anyone suggest what my options are. Does anyone know any dealers who would take it or internet websites who would give me a good deal?

Many thanks

  • Would they give you cash as an alternative prize?

If you go down to your local Toyota dealer, in sure they will happily take it off you after all any car sales man worth his salt will be after a bargain.
Tell them how you got it and that you don't want it.
If you except a lower than retail price (technically its second hand) then I'm sure they will be happy to have it.
Even if you take a few grand less its all still money in your pocket.

In case your wondering yes even main dealers buy cars for cash(at the right price)

    Well done for winning.

    Well done you!

It is worth asking for the cash, it's unlikely the competition organisers have actually bought a car already. A colleague of mine won a car a couple of years ago in a newspaper competition; the car dealership he was to have collected the car from made him an offer – not full list price obviously, but more than he would have got selling it on. You might have to have your photo taken looking delighted with “your” new car though.

I would personally accept the brand spanking new one, enjoy it and consider proceeds from the sale of the current one a big bonus. Means less dosh but it's still money you otherwise would not have got and isn't the Prius supposed to be cheap to run etc? It will also have dealer's warranty so if anything goes wrong, it will cost you something on current car (if out of warranty) but not on this one.

Unfortunately the prize was a car and no cash alternative is available. I have spoken to the Toyota dealership and they have stated that they do not want the car. I never even discussed a price. As for keeping it, I have what is commonly called 'negative equity' on my existing car. My loan is worth more than my car so no point in keeping it and selling my old car. No I could do with the money to get me out of debt and into credit.

    Any other suggestions...

The easiest & quikest & SAFEST way, would be to auction it.

Contact your local British Car Auctions branch, http://www.british-car-auctions.co.uk they will do everything for you, colect it, promote it & sell it - at it's REAL market value - plus pay you! This will avoid all the scams, that will be offered to you!

You will need to arrange a short term insurance cover, to enable the registration of the car, but once it's sold in auction, you'll be clear of it totally!

Sell both cars, pay off loan, look in under £1000 section of autotrader. Not yet figured out why people with financial difficulties struggle to buy cars on loans when there's plenty of good cars available cheaply.

Take it to London and advertise it on the outskirts of the congestion zone.

    Prius are exempt.
