This is more than likely a hardware problem. Most likely the hard disk. You'll need to run diagnostics on the hard disk to be sure.
If you can remove the hard disk panel on the back of the laptop to reveal the hard disk manufacturer, you can then visit the manufacturers website and download a diagnostic tool.
If you are unable to do this you will need to either contact fujitsu siemens or another repairer.
Russ- Google is your friend, use it :rolleyes:0 -
an "0x0000008E" message during setup is, according to microsoft, most likely a ram issue, check its seated correctly and see if you can borrow from another machine or friend to test, lappy ram is generally very cheap and easy to replace.
read this and thisfor confirmation..
edit - if your machine has 2 sticks of ram, you could always install xp with just 1 in, when it falls over, throw that stick away and replaceUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -
How many sticks of ram in the machine and can you take one out if two in and or swop .As i see tonyhague has posted as i am writing this the culprit in my experience is more often RAM as the startup goes so far then probably cannot use the memory to hold some of the start-up files it Blue Screens likewise with set-up .Its often only one stick at fault if you have two installed .
ebuyer have ram at low prices as do

Probable fault area one RAM two Video Card three Hard Drive .
