I have had 1 ccj and a default all satisfied
Recieved a letter from citibank today, my application was unsuccesful

The 'Large' number as you call it makes absolutely NO difference whatsoever as there are too many factors to be taken into consideration when assessing an applicants credit worthiness. No two applicants will be the same !
What may appear to be similar probably isn't when all factors are taken into consideration and what one creditor decides may well not be the case with another.
With a deafaulted history and a CCJ I would think you'd have difficulty obtaining any standard card.0
