  • Could you buy those stick on incontinence pads that stick to the sheets to avoid washing your youngest's sheets so often .... you will obviously have to buy them (not very moneysaving) but you'll sve on the washing

  • Something like this

£5.60 for 10 but 56p each which is less than it will cost you to wash the sheets daily

I agree it's a constant problem and one of the worst things about winter. It's great how stuff dries in less than 3 hrs on a warm summer day...am very reluctant to use a high spin as this has wrecked plenty of clothes. I can't bear the smell of clothes that have stayed damp for a long time, defeats the object of washing.

  • I used to have a Sheila Maid and it was brilliant. Towels would dry overnight.

You can probably build your own, there seems to be a lot of places selling them complete and also the spares.

Mine had red cast iron ends and I put it in a brand new house over 20 years ago. Friends thought I was quite mad.

I set my tumble dryer on fire when I had my first home and vowed never to have another. Had no clue that there was a filter inside and that it needed periodic de-fluffing. I had acquired it second hand so no handbook. DOH! :o

    Hi, jodyBPM.

I get all depressed about wet washing everywhere too, I found doing one load a day the only way to keep up with it.

I have a tumble dryer now and find it costs me about 31p to dry a full load, so not drastic expense as long as I use it sensibly. There are small tumble dryers that will fit in a cupboard and can be wheeled out when required, you may have to vent the hose out of a window.

I try to line dry as much as possible and only use the dryer to finish it off or if it's impossible to dry that day, so I don't go mad with it.

With a family it can be very difficult in a small home, plus all the condensation drying washing creates isn't good for the fabric of the building and can lead to damp and mould.

You may find a hanyman to put your 'old fashioned' airer up for you if your hubbie isn't too keen, and it may be better on the landing as hot air rises and it's not seen as readily. Plus it's easier to leave a window open upstairs for ventilation without being blown to bits with the draught while watching TV.

Hope you find a good solution, it's a thing flylady calls 'Mount Washmore'. lol.:)

  • i do my washing mostly in the evening (out all day and NOT an early riser) and hang up, then in morning i can just swipe it all into basket to get sorted when i have time
Are you using disposable nappies? try real nappies, they are more absorbant and more likely to fit better to reduce leakages, if u dont fancy paying for cloth nappies, try putting pants on your child and then the nappy, this might help with him (think u said son? sorry if ive gotten it wrong) in becoming nappy free quicker. anyways it should hopefully alert him to the wetness quicker and the nappy should retain most of the wee.

  • i hate having loads of washing to do and getting it dry in the winter is a pain, we get bad condensation and damp in our house so i have to use the tumble dryer more than i would like, am going to try to remember to do an extra spin before putting it in the dryer and make sure stuff is dirty before washing it. hopefully that will help a bit
