  • Hi everyone ,

This is such a daft question but how are u drying your clothes??

Its the summer holidays i have four children getting the clothes bogging! the washing is mountain up and because its been raining for 2weeks now i just dont have anyway or see any economical way of getting through the washing!!!

I gave in and used the tumble dryer to dry the bedsheets getting bedding washed and done is essentail but it cost me 2.00 in my electric meter 45 mins OMG:eek::eek::eek:, so i really dont want to use this unless its an emergency as i am a single mum moneys tight!

I am using the air ers but my home is very small its taking up the room the raidators are tiny and i cant keep them on long because even thou its raining its very warm..(doesnt make sense i know!) and it take about 24 hour plus to dry on the air er

Im getting embarressed to have people around because there is literally washing everywhere:confused:...

    how are u all coping?

this shud be summer and we shud have our sheets flapping on the line!!!;)

    pd xx

I don't have an outside drying system - our towels, bedding & bath sets go into the dryer, everything else goes onto an airer in the spare room......but there is only me & OH!

Have you tried putting the airers in the bathroom/in the bath? Get them out of sight.

not much help here other than sympathy! got 5 sproglets here and I find if its raining the air is just so damp - even inside - the washing smells musty by the time its dry. I'm really trying not to use the dryer and getting the clothes on the line even if its for 20 mins

Can I ask about the meter readings you gave - did it cost you £2 for 45 mins of the dryer:eek:? or was it 2 units? If the former, you are paying way over the odds for your electric, and should get some help to change to a better deal. If the latter then that's only 20p-30p, and so not quite so bad.
I have 2 kids and our weather has been !!!!py too so I've been drying most stuff inside, but seeing as it takes about 24 hours to dry everything and then I put another load on it can be like a laundry in here, especially when I need to do the beds. I usually hang, on the airer, for most of the day and then finish off in the dryer, by this time small things are dry and few things need to go in the dryer. This only takes 20 mins or so at most. (means I don't usually need to iron too ;).) If you can do an extra spin to get as much water out as possible too as this will help reduce drying time.
It's not easy, but the kids will be back at school soon enough (2 weeks here), and hopefully we will get better weather soon.

    It's only a game

The OP is on a pre-payment meter, therefore she saw the monetary reading drop by £2

I don't have a tumble dryer but there are only the 4 of us.
I have an clothes horse that is put up in our bedroom and I hang as much other stuff off the shower rail over the bath. Our house is quite warm so apart from jeans and towels most things do dry overnight.
I much prefer it to be on the line though.

Is your bedroom big enough to accommodate all the washing on airers?
