I'm looking for a fold up clothes dryer/airer.
Can anyone recommend one that will take 2 loads of washing, is fairly sturdy and cheap.
    Thanks

I've got one very similiar to this:

    http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/8505727/c_1/1%7Ccategory_root%7CKitchen+and+laundry%7C10198386/c_2/2%7Ccat_10198386%7CLaundry+and+cleaning%7C10198571/c_3/3%7Ccat_10198571%7CIndoor+airers%7C10198574.htm

I have had it for about seven years and it has moved house with me about 5 times! It fits 2 small loads on it and dry's well. Not the cheapest but very sturdy and folds away very small.

Lalaladybird, we have the same problem, we really struggle to get our washing dry without using the tumble dryer (we do have one though) and without putting the heating on all the time.. it just doesn't dry very well without going foosty - I totally relate to your 3 day comment, it would be exactly the same here (and we have tried).

I don't know what the answer is sadly, but just to say I understand and sympathise.

  • Not very MSE but when I have done the washing I whizz down to the local laundrette and use their dryers, about £5 to dry 3 wash loads.
    I hate migraines.
  • I'm also not very MSE on this one - I take my towels, bedding and heavier items down to the local launderette - it costs me £3 for a large launderette bag full (2 - 3 washing machine loads). It's great because they do it for me - I just leave it and then collect it later - all folded up nicely! Blouses, school uniform and the like I put on hangers and hang from the picture rails - doesn't look very pretty but it dries quite quickly that way.

Hang heavy items , sheets , towels over doors and turn them over frequently.. I have 3 or 4 of those radiator rails that you can hang socks and pants on , even on dull days washing will dry outside as long as there is a little breeze...

it might be an idea to get a dehimidifier. Maybe your laundry isn't drying quickly because the air is damp?
  • Hi, what I do is I have 2 wooden clothes airers from argos, they're pretty sturdy. I'll do a few loads, leave them on there for a few days and then give them a quick tumble dry just to ensure they're properly dried. I also hang things over doors on stairs etc.

Agree with the dehumidifier, clothes struggle to dry and get smelly in a damp room. That damp can just be as much as would cause condensation on windows. This is I think why they dry better on the landing or similar where people don't sleep etc. I got my dehumidifier from Freecycle.
One day I might be more organised...........

Hiya, I dry using airers too! I also hang the likes of tops, jumpers and trousers from plastic coat hangers off a high shelf or door way overnight.
If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
