I don't own a tumble drier so I try to get my washing outside when ever I can. My friend lives in a flat and has a dehumidifier, she says its good at helping to get the washing dry indoors and doesn't use up as much electricity as a tumble drier.I love MSE freebies and comps. Thanks posters0

I rarely use my dryer, instead i use a folding put-up-able clothes maid/rack that i keep in the kitchen. I also use the radiators but only occassionally and usually only for light things, not heavy wet towels or what have you.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

I'm in a small flat and so far have found that the best thing I can do is put mine on an airer and ironing tidy in the bathroom, the window is always part open to reduce the damp getting through the flat anyway. Then it all goes in the airing cupboard for a couple of days before I put it away. But being on my own I only tend to do a couple of loads a week. It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

I dry outside nearly every day of the year. I have a whirligig style dryer outside, and I bought a cover for it. Look up eco washing lines, you will get a main web site with loads of types but I actually bought it elsewhere a little cheaper - can't remember where offhand.
Basically, I just hang out as normal then leave it until it is dry or I need it. Depending on the weather (humidity, cold, damp etc) it will be 50-90% dry even in winter. Yesterday for example I took some stuff in that had been out 2-3 days, and it was virtually dry. I finish things off on an airer in the house.
I have a large whirligig, it can take at least 4 wash loads, so I just keep hanging out every day. Every day I then go and have a feel and take some indoors. The only time I can't use the cover is when there are strong winds or heavy snow.
I wouldn't be without my cover. The only downside is that it extends the washing cycle because in winter things can take a while to dry but that doesn't matter - the wet washing isn't in my house, I am still managing to wash and get that part of the laundry cycle done regularly and out of my way, so it's just a matter of bringing in the dry/almost dry stuff each day.
I do have to keep reminding my teenagers however that they won't have things 'now' or even next day, they have keep the cycle in mind!
The other thing is that it takes away the rush of getting washing out early in the day, I just do it whenever it suits. Often I hang out the washing when I got home from work about 4 p.m., then just leave it anywhere from 1-3 days until it's ready.0 -
Radiators, clothes horse, outside line (weather permitting), tumble dryer when needs must.Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0

my washing goes on the radiators, over doors and the clothes horse in the winter.

My tumble dryer died over the weekend, but i`m determined not to buy another dryer.
So now I give the washing an extra spin and hang it outside (neighbours must think i`m a bit crazy:)),so far by the end of the day the washing is still a little damp, but I stick it in the airing cupboard and it`s dry the next day.Grocery Challenge 2013: July week 1 £90/£87.41

If I had something like an airing cupboard / utility room then it would be in there but unfortunately I don't
I have been using an airer but have had terrible problems with damp
I hadn't used the TD for over a year but have now started using it again for things like towels / bedding etc - just to really try to cut down on the amount of stuff hanging around & so there's not wet washing being added every day!:cool:Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Sorry, I don't have a garden so can't dry outside. I don't have much of an airing cupboard, so that's out too. I don't have a spare room to hang things in, and my flatmate and I work different shifts so we can't hang things over the bath or in the kitchen without inconveniencing each other.
We do about two loads each per week, and I use the dryer. It saves on damp wet clothes being everywhere. I'd love to line dry stuff, but I don't have an option.
Look at your clothes and therefore washing usage. Two loads a day seems very high. Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

i dont have an outside to hang washing and i have six of us in a two bed flat but i make space for an airer. I tend to put it out in teh morning while we are out of the home (or kids are at least) and usually by the evening its dry. I leave my windo open slightly to allow the air to circulate and not got any probs with damp etc. i also do the extra spin as its ammazing what a difference this makes to how quick things dry. i only use my drier in emergency but mine is a washer dryer and washing always takes priority.Proud to be Member of BSC #92Hoping to get debt free again :wall::heart2: working hard to make my daughters proud :heart2:0
