Specialist Insurance Required

Oh where to begin.......
My son in law to be (21 y/o) has waited patiently and behaved in order to sort out his bad driving history. He has purchased a very sensible 1.4 diesel and is taking his test so that he can use the vehicle with my daughter & grand daughter. I am very proud of his actions he has really turned around. I had attempted to help him aquire some quotes (Online) but due to his 7 driving convictions it has not been possible. Quotes have been in the region of £2400 per year, this simply isn't affordable.
I really want him to be able to insure his vehicle as he has put in so much effort to get to this position.
Does anyone know of any "specialist" insurance companies whom specialise in insuring young drivers with convictions (IN10, LS20 & TT99) ? I am thinking along the lines of limited milage insurance such as only 3000 miles per year instead of the usual 12000.
The budget permissable for insurance is £1200 per year, I would be grateful if anyone can point me in the right direction as I really have no clue where to begin.
Thanks in advance
Tony

The longest ban was for 24 months and it expired in february of this year the convictions all date from early 2002.

I haven't got any suggestions other than trawling round all the insurance companies. Do these convictions expire as in ones that you might get if you had a licence in the first place? Perhaps he is just going to have to be patient again, it's hard enough insuring young people of that age anyway. I have seen some references to "specialists" in young drivers when I've looked for my own insurance but couldn't tell you where. Presumably you've done a search for "banned drivers car insurance" or whatever?Torgwen..........

There are three important factors for each conviction they are:
1. Fine
&
2. Ban
&
3. Points
The online insurance companies require that for each conviction it has two of the above, of his 7 convictions only 3 have atleast 2 of the above. None of the convictions have any points (#3) listed against them and I think this is where the TT99 code comes in.
I have searched and have found three more companies for him to try:
4YoungDrivers
LifeBelt
DNA Insurance
I was hoping for suggestions to help bring down the price of the premiums though & assumed that limited milage would be the biggest (price reduction factor)
Thanks Fran0 -
Try https://www.motorquotedirect.com who will quote on line for most convictions. They were by far the cheapest for a family member with several convictions.
Best of luck0 -
Hi, just come across this thread in a search, dont know if you'll see this reply. You might even have the insurance sorted but, I'm just coming to the end of a ban at the weekend so I've been ringing around for insurance quotes, I've found that fortis insurance dont require you to disclose all the convictions, all they need is TT99, I have had this checked by 2 different brokers who both confirmed it with the underwriters.
Might be worth looking into if you're still looking.

I am slightly confused, he got all his 7 convictions in early 2002 at the age of 14/15, yet he wasn't banned until February 2006 at the age of 18/19, I know the courts work a bit slowly sometimes, but surely not that slow.I've given up trying to get my signature to work with the new rules, if nobody knows what the rules are what hope do we have?0 -
£2400 is a good price when you consider he's a high risk (young with convictions) with no ncb.0
-
Please note the original post is over 3 years old now.
He would now be the ripe old age of 24.0 -

After 3 years you'd hope he'd solved the problem (shame the OP never came back with a result though).0
