Dla+is+ib+ca = ?

Given I'm on middle rate DLA, higher Mobility, with Incapacity Benefit, my wife's my carer and we both get Income Support, I understand she can earn up t0 £20 pw, but can I, too? Can I become a partner in a small business, effectively a director, providing I keep my earnings capped (which is easy - the business would be very, very small, working from home)?

Thank you in advance for any advice.

No, the earnings disregard applies to the household between you both.

Also if you are a director of the company it isn't your earnings that are taken into account but the profits from the business.

Normally a small business from home would be run as self-employed or sole trader unless you are going to set up a Limited Company

It would be as a partnership, but no bigger than a sole trader, really.

Bloody hell, isn't the amount you're getting off the State enough to live on?

go for disabled tax credits, "massage" your profits figures and working hours to gain the maximum benefit.

I've never heard of disabled tax credits. Hmmm...I wonder if it would help, seeing as I'm already in the lap of luxury? :)

Tax credits would be available if you are working for more than sixteen hours. This would replace the IS and IB you are currently in receipt of.

Capability to work more than sixteen hours could also prompt a review of your DLA (however you may still be eligible, many working people are).

With regard to your eligibility to tax credits, there is more information available at https://www.hmrc.gov.uk.
    Gone ... or have I?

    tax credit rates are:

    basic element: £1,800
    couple:£1770
    30 hour elemt:£735
    dsiabled worker:£2,405
    severe disability:£1,020
    50+ :£1,840

    total: £9,570

i think when i investigated going down this route myself as self employed, to get these max allowances you could "earn" upto £80 a week before they start deducting money, so it's just a case of writing certain things off to get profit down to this level.

those above will replace your IB+IS, but should still get the other benefits you are currently receiving, e.g. DLA,

all you need to do, is just be a bit creative with your accounting.

...and lie to the WTC about the hours you're doing. Thanks for confirming my views this board is more about screwing the dole than anything else.

If it's any consolation, that's not something I'd do. Apart from principles, the penalties outweigh the risk.My only interest is in (eventually) standing on my own two feet once again.
