Re: perfume strengths, I've never actually checked the labels on the bottom of the tester bottles but I wonder what strength they actually are.

Parfum - Perfume, 15 - 25% perfume oil (dissolved in water and alcohol)
EDP - Eau de parfum, 8 - 15% perfume oil
EDT - Eau de toilette, 4 - 10% perfume oil
EDC - Eau de cologne, 2 - 5% perfume oil

My guess is that they use the stronger EDP or EDT in tester bottles but the product we buy is probably lower in strength ie: EDT or EDC. Clever marketing methinks ;)

Not sure about free perfume, but there are a few reductions on perfumes at the mo. Someone mentioned last week that they reduced perfumes last year at this time(sorry cant remember who though!). I have only been to a couple of Boots this week but both have reductions and others had mentioned perfumes on clearance as well. The ones I have seen are all stickered with clearance stickers. The smiley gift set is stickered at £10 but goes through at £6.66(a third off). I do like it but it is def not as strong as the tester I have been spraying every time I am in!!! I looked up the ingredients last night as I wanted to know what the familiar smell in it is and I think it might be citronella. It also contains elements that smells like hyacinth and jasmine.

I am going to try a tester from Ebay, just need to decide what one to try and get and will report back. Maybe if some other MSE has a perfume tester they can add to the debate?

I have been keeping up with this thread and have never seen any glitch mentioned about free perfume. I mentioned that I managed to get 2 Ted Baker perfume sets (men & women) reduced to £3.75 each. HTH :D

If you are looking for perfume testers please try this site first. Fragrance direct. I think it is the place where a lot of the ebay items end up. I have used this site for about 5 years and it is excellent. You can also get perfects there, and unboxed really good prices and fast delivery. The testers are clearly marked with symbols. HTH.

liliflower, like nicolefury said marks are fantastic to their staff...do not know if they still do it, but when I was a teen I got a little job and got better discount than my friend who worked in Boots-even hair cuts! Staff canteen fantastic and cheap and good discounts. Also if you can only do 6 or 8 hrs they accomodate you etc.

The new saturday girl on her third week looked really shattered last week, I asked if she was ok as the poor thing looked as if she was going to collapse. It was six o clock and she said she had to go in at 7 that morning, I was like 'wow your maxing the hrs lol' she then said she was not really given a choice as she was told and not asked as they were short staffed and one of the full time SA's told her they were always short staffed. I said oh well they should put recruitment posters up etc and she said the full time SA had told her that they always worked to minimum staffing hrs as then the manager got a bigger bonus, so if there was sickness the staff were basically told, not asked to cover.

Sorry to waffle, just saying that I think M&S for xample, treat their staff alot better. Plus I think they sour faced SA's would say no to some of the glitches for staff etc?

I have alot of teenage relatives and the best job one of them works for is waitrose, they treat all staff equal, great pay, overtime at decent rates, AMAZING discount, plus you get put into the profit share scheme...my cousin who is 17 just got a £900 payment from that and he only does weekends!

    Sorry to waffle folks!

I agree with you a friend of mine's niece works for Boots and every day they check her long hair for stolen items and her boots!!!! Other casual staff too. This has happened ever since she started on Saturdays!! What a cheek. Sh'es worked elsewhere and never been askd to do this before!

I am not sure what it is you mainly smell in this Smiley stuff but it is familiar - almost herbal(like those sachets you can put in a room to calm you down or help you sleep!!!!!) I must add the scent does change once its on.

Thanks Pollsdolls, I'm checking that out now.
Another good place for testers is Superdrug, they sell off partly used testers regularly in their fragrance sales which seem to be quite frequent. Often the bottles are hardly used so I guess they are given new ones frequently so that it stays fresh, the bottles are usually kept out in the daylight so can deteriorate fast.

Just checked on a tester bottle of Jasper Conran Woman (from Superdrug) belonging to DD, it is indeed EDP.

PS If anyone's old enough to remember Biba shops, that's what the Smiley perfume reminds me of, lots of patchouli in it.

Oh, went to Boots today, just to stay on topic :D Plenty of Med soaps in Durham Marketplace if you have vouchers to use. Got some more of the UG shampoo and conditioner too with ACM voucher, two bottles for £3.50 is a bargain. DD got 17 lipglaze, Ultimate Volume lip gloss and GWP, used lipglaze mag voucher and save £1 lip gloss ACM voucher too, well pleased.

Hi, i saw this on the Marie Claire website, sorry if it's old news, i only go in boots about 4 times in a year :p

There are so many reasons why it is worth buying the new 100% gorgeous bag from Boots. Firstly, in 100% cotton, it is a great alternative to using plastic bags, and is big enough to fit in all your shopping.

Secondly, it helps raise funds for three women's cancer charities, Breast Cancer Care, The Eve Appeal and Action Breast Cancer, with 15% of the price going directly to this worthy cause.

Thirdly, at just £3, it is stylish, and eco-friendly bargain!

Get to your nearest Boots store now to pick yours up.
