Changing suppliers kwh calculations problems
I am helping a friend look at all their outgoings.We decided to look at gas and electric first.With her permission,I rang british gas and got the following info-I actually wanted 1 year of figures but they have given me 11 months for some reason ie Nov 2006 to October 2006.I have the bills for gas for this period.I have the metered readings for this period 4442-4830 . Simple way of calculating the missing month?
I know from previous experience that the kwh seems to present them with a problem.
They have given me the calculations to work it out for myself to convert to kwh.It looks a bit complicated but my maths is ok.
They have given me 3months of electricity readings (she only having gone duel fual with them more recently) and she is on standard rate for both and paying quarterly as the bill arrives.She has used 1082 units oct to early feb.
Any tips for where to go next.

If you know the usage over "x" months, divide total usage by "x" and multiply by 12 to get a yearly estimate. Ok-so it would be more accurate if i went back and got any more months metered readings they have0

Just multiply by 12/11 to convert up to 12 months worth.
ie: dividing by 11 gives amount per month, multiply by 12 to give 12 month's estimate.
I'd say that 11 months is long enough to give a good idea of annual usage after scaling.Happy chappy0 -
Hi Holly...your friends gas units convert to per annum 423 (roughly) and multiply by 32 if cu.ft or 11 if metric. (marked on the meter), so either 13536kwh 0r 4653..the national average is 20,000 for gas and 3300 for electric.
If the 1082 is for exactly 3 months then, as electric used is normally at the same rate per month , this translates to 4328.....over the top.
You need to determine if your friend is on E7 heating and is the gas meter units.. metric or cu.ft.

Yes, 11 months is fine for an estimate, but for electric it would be better to get an earlier reading e.g. from a previous supplier's bill if possible. If you don't have it, just use the 3 month value, as long as there is no electric heating it should be a pretty accurate estimate. Someone I know had an account with BG and had very high gas bills, they then discovered that their meter was not the type of meter that BG thought they had and therefore were being overcharged.
As such everyone should check their gas meter to find out if it is cubic meters or cubic feet and check their bill to find out what their supplier thinks they have.0 -

B/S "Standard" Tariff, actual usage from bill.
8671.96 Units over 60 days.
First 441.00 kWh at 6.151 pence = £27.13
Next 8230.96 kWh at 2.580 pence = 212.36
No Vat is applied to the above.
Total = 239.49
Npower "Sign Online 10" Tariff, keeps coming up top on the comparison site lists.
So based on the above usage,
8671.96 Units over 60 days.
First 4572 kWh at 5.960p pence = £272.49
Next 4099.96 kWh at 1.631 pence = 66.87
No Vat is applied to the above.
Total = 339.360 -
The 4572Kwh is per year (for any given definition of year).
How much of this is used in any month changes - see the sculpting thread.
Work out which month to use, and then how many kWh/day for those months, then multiply up.
For example, the BG one is 2680/year, which makes it ~7.5kWh/day * 60 days = 441 kWh.

T2 7486.61*1.631=12210.66091=£122.11
Total before VAT = £192.76
If your 60 days were in the summer this would be less, Jan/Dec it would be more.0
