After Bankruptcy...what now?

If you are a discharged bankrupt then I can't see the problem, as Fedz said below if you are discharged you don't have to declare it but as its glaringly obvious its probably going to pop up on their computer searches and stuff.
They have offered you it, they must know you have been involved in bankruptcy from when you opened your account so why not ask and see, they can only say no. It may be, as some other posters have said, that you have now proved yourself with bank. Just tell them you absolutely don't want an overdraft, although I doubt they are about to offer.0 -
Kever - you should give it a try. It is good you have a bank account anyway so you have nothing to lose.It is a bit silly that people wanting a simple switch facility are turned down. The bank explained to me that a lot of these accounts come with an automatic overdraft plus the switch does not instantly clear so is open to abuse, potentionally giving three days " overdraft " to a user. Now this is tosh as many people dont know this and it automatically assuames that Whoa because you are bankrupt you are going to risk this sort of stupidity and dishonesty.
EVEN if you are bankrupt it is totally at the banks descretion if they want you to have a switch card/cheque bok and is NOT against any terms of your bankruptacy- you are alloweEd a loan of up to £250 as long as you declare your stAtus . So give it a go and good luck, let us know how you get on.0 -
Well, took your advice and popped into NatWest to ask about upgrading account. Manageress came out and to be honest she was perhaps one of the most helpful people I have ever met. She said that a Step account gets flagged after 3 months for an upgrade, but would need to do a credit score on me. I thought, why not, let's give it a try. Guess what? It came back with a big fat no. I was kinda resigned to it anyway, but the manageress got really annoyed about it and kept saying "how do they expect people to get back on their feet if they can't get banking facilities". ANyway, I'm happy with my account, and very happy with NatWest, so will just keep using my step account until I'm discharged next May and see what happens then.0
