Having now checked, it seems most people don't receive anything stating they have been discharged; although you can pay for a certificate. You don't have anything to lose by checking after all, as you prepared in your mind for discharge at a much later date.
Checked and not on the list! Called OR office and they said call back in the morning! However, they did tell me that most people who were bankrupt before 2004, had a high chance that they were now discharged!!
Gonna call in the morning!

Thank you for all the details you all have posted.
I am not here to advise but to take advise. I have been in the UK for just 3 years and due to some stupid reason I owe about £11K to 4-5 credit card companies. I am not planning to go bankrupt coz my monthly re-payments work out to be £309 though i have never missed a payment.
shall i too opt for bankrupcy ?
thank you0 -

if you can afford to keep paying that amount, i wouldnt go bankrupt..i would try and get them all on 0% deals..or at least some of them..In this trusted place U can erase

thank you. but how do i get them on 0% deals ? i have been doing that though. here :
Card A at 18%, apply for a new card with 0% for 9 months and transfer the balance of that card A. i mean i have been doing this for 7 months now and the current situation is that even my 0%'s are coming to an end ...you see. the worst of all, my surplus comes to -£182, rather to pay the minimum i keep borrowing cash from thses credit card companies..0 -
You could try writing to them asking to reduce the payments, or make an appointment to see the CAB! They will help you, and best of all its free!In this trusted place U can erase
