Its the integrated video/ graphics driver from Intel its a known problem .Suggestions are that its due to overheating or faulty graphics chip or faulty driver .
Suggest you go to the manufacturers site and look for a later integrated video driver failing the manufacturer either Intel.com or the motherboard manufacturer web site .
As you have just got the machine go back to the vendor first they may know of the problem and fix.

I bought a Dell 1501 running Vista a while back and all seemed ok until I started watching BBC iplayer and other clips. When I try to watch the program using the Full SCreen option before very long the screen goes black. Then a message appears saying 'Display driver stopped and has recovered. Dispay driver R300 stopped responding and successfully recovered'

Does anyone know how to rectify this problem so I can watch things on a full screen ?

I believe the Display Driver is ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 and that it is up to date !

i can tel you one thing about that fault ,it is not vista it's the driver that do's it and vista is recovering it,
it look like you have to find a few drivers for your graphic card and find the best one for your pc
i now this happens alot with topend cards and it's always the driver at fault and theres no quike fix to it.
when you get a few drivers for your card unistall the driver first and then install the new driver
here are some driver you can try (like i said there no quik fix)http://downloads.guru3d.com/Videocards---ATI-Catalyst-Windows-Vista_c31.html
there or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff
