how much weight do i need to lose?

I started an eating plan that involves not touching Bread, Sugar, Pastry, alcohol. I've been on it for 3 weeks and although I've only lost 3 pounds I have lost 2 inches off my waist!
Clothes fit better and that's what I wanted. Not felt hungry and occasional cravings for crisps dealt with by having a packet of pork scratchings.
Going to keep doing it as I reckon it is mostly an intolerance to refined flour that has made the big difference. Don't miss any of it and am now finding that I'm not thinking about food very much. I eat when I'm hungry til I'm not. Loving the more awake me and not stressing about the kilos or calories.
Was skeptical at first but within a week was loving it. It's not so much 'low carb' as low 'stuff that's been messed with too much' eating plan. Works well and I love beans cheese egg sausage for lunch! Never hungry or craving. Each eve I have a lovely supper of All Bran and single cream. Yum!
Not a big follower of diets as the word used to make me reach for the biscuits! Love this though. Lots of salads with steak has a lot to do with my happiness

Homealone,
I cannot directly answer your question of how much you have to lose. It depends on so many things!
As other posters have said, any loss is good, and a little bit at a time, taking one day at a time helps.
There are many slimming threads on here (I'm in one and have about 3.5 st to lose myself) so all the support you need is here.
A healthy eating plan that allows you to indulge a little (a little!!!!) will help you make changes to your eating habits that can be permanent, and help you stay slim after you have lost what you want to lose. I make sure I get something of a treat every day, be it a couple of squares of chocolate, a small glass of wine, or even a bit of skin on the chicken! However I balance that with healthy choices, and realise that I'm only human.
As long as you have a goal in sight, and have lots of mini-goals to keep you going, then you will be ok. At the end of it all, though, YOU have to do it, no-one else can do this for you.
On the bright side, YOU get all the glory, praise and credit for your successes.
It will not necessarily be a smooth road, you may fall off the wagon, BUT it is what you do when you fall off that dictates your ultimate failure or success. If you learn from your mistakes and do something different next time, then you are more likely to succeed.
I found that my problem was that I buried my feelings with food. Lots of people do this! Once I had really accepted that I did this, I was on the way to changing my behaviour, and now I can choose not to eat myself silly to avoid feeling bad. I can do a little exercise, go online, or if I really must eat, I have fruit, or veg crudites.
I hope this helps!
All the best,
Eph xxxIf you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got.

thanks to all who turned the subject back to me losing enough weight to be able to wear my rings comfortably again. i do have a bad habit of snacking and being that i am usually up all night in pain it gives me additional hours in which to snack in. i do believe i also have problems with wheat, flour and pastry which unfortunately has not stopped me eating them! i will be going on hols in 3 months and the thought of having a 3rd year with me just wanting to hid behind the palms do not fill me with pleasure so i know this time i must do something about this. i never weighted this much when pregnant with any of my kids, stopped weighing myself when i reached 17 stone which was the combined weight of my 21 yr old and my husband. that was the lowest day possible. i have thought about joining weightwatchers but as already stated on here is pretty expensive and being disabled with spine problems may mean missing some meetings on bad days and so be a waste of money. have been given paul mckennas weight loss program for my birthday but it had instruction book missing so not sure what order to listen to cds in. and to be honest am so low at moment doubt anything will work but thank you for taking the time to write1

Hi Homealone
Sorry to hear that you're down, had a look online and amazon give these descriptions of the cd's, don't think it looks like they have to be listened to in any order.

Have a listen to them and see if they inspire you at all. Whenever you feel ready to lose weight - pop along to one of the weightloss boards and join in the fun
