How much is listing fee?

I'm trying to gain access to my account after the password was somehow changed. When I get that done, I would like to sell a few things.

What is a listing fee and how much is it? Does it have to be paid irregaredless of whether the item is sold?

Any other useful information for me? :D

shows insertion fees and FVF (Final Value Fee) if your item sells

insertion fees are paid regardless, no refund.
but you can relist for free, only if your item sells.

and if you accept paypal, they will take 0.034% + 20p per transaction

The listing fee depends on what you are selling i.e the listing fee for a car is around £8 bu a dvd is 20 pence and it also goes on the starting value of the auction
  • Thanks :D

the commission of 5.25% is a little excessive don't you think?

Also how are you supposed to work out the P&P price? I have a couple of portrait pictures (framed) for sale but I'm reluctant to list them unless I can put a value for P&P as I may end up not charging enough or charging too much :o

Weigh your picture (with the packaging) then check the P&P here.

i usually just weigh my item, without packaging, on my kitchen scales gives a good guideline, and then add half the weight on, and use that postage price.

eg: item weighs 500g, i will charge the 750g price.

and dont forget to offer optional insurance, if you are going to use standard post. Recorded delivery costs 66p, and international signed for costs £3.30

All details can be found on the Royal Mail website (see above post)

Then theres your labour for taking it to the post office, packaging materials etc
I dont think its unreasonable to DOUBLE the postal cost. Standard mail has £28 insurance built in (get a receipt) so you could offer "insured postage" as standard (unless the items over £28 :-) )

TRy doing the selling tutorial on ebay, you should be very careful about selling until you are confident you know what you are doing.

As for post and packing, work it out as others have already suggested, but make sure your parcel won't exceed the sizes for the delivery method you choose. If you use paypal then make sure you protect yourself by either retaining a COP if the item is below £30 in value or use recorded delivery, again for items up to £30 only, or special delivery for more valuable items.

It is your responsibility to ensure the buyer receives their goods, so a COP will mean you can claim back from the post office if the item goes astray and refund the buyer, whereas recorded delivery will just mean you can prove delivery and stop a paypal chargeback as well as being able to claim back from the PO. Special delivery is the same as RD for benefits but with the advantage you can specify the amount of insurance to be used.

i think its misleading to offer 'insured postage' on the standard mail, even tho packages are up to the value of £28.

I brought an item for £10, and paid the £1.50 postage, and the extra 'required' 50p insurance. Seller, sent goods out Standard Post, parcel was never received. :( seller, not given refund, too late to do chargeback and too late to report to ebay now. I've not neg'd the seller, as i will probbaly get a neg back, just say goodbye to £12!!

In this situation the £12 loss was nothing to do with whether the parcel was insured or not. Even if it had been insured you would need the sellers co operation to claim back from the Post office, you would have needed to RD or SD slip.

Never ever miss the deadline for a paypal chargeback, it doesn't matter how the item is sent, if the seller cannot prove delivery then he can't stop the chargeback process.

Remember Recorded delivery is not an insurance mailing product. It is only there to provide you the confirmation of a signature, nothing else.
