  • Have you got any companies local to you that do the sort of thing you're interested in? Maybe you could arrange some work experience to see if it's what you really want to do. If it is then maybe you could see if they would hire you in September. Are there any similar university courses available with a lower points requirement? If you are serious about uni then you should start applying asap as deadlines are getting near. If you really aren't sure, maybe you could take a gap year and do something relevant, get some money and experience at the same time and see how you feel in a year's time. I'm sorry I can't offer much more advice as it's not my field of expertise but good luck.

If the fashion marketing course is what you really want to do, how about getting in touch with the university and seeing if you stand a chance of entry. If you're heading for a good set of marks, they may be willing to give you a lower offer, especially if the course is likely to go into Extra/Clearing.

If they say no, but it's still what you want to do, then you need to look at ways of getting into the course next year. You could think about getting a job in fashion/retail, and taking another course to get you the points you need.

Apply to the university anyway you never know you may strike lucky and get in. Make sure it is what you want to do, if your heart wouldnt be in Art college would in be in uni, its a lot of hard work and is very expensive. If you don't get in and that is really what you want to do, (i.e. go to uni) why not do another year at college for either AS or 'fast track' a- level (a full a level that only takes 1 year) so you can get enough points. After all, whats a year if it gets you want you want. Talk to your college about finding you some sort of work experience as they will most likely have connections with firms in your area and it should be easier to get in. If I were you before considering uni, I would put the feelers out and see whats out there - what jobs would your degree lead to, how in demand are they are where are they etc. If college cannot help, contact some local companies and ask family and friends if you could get any work experience doing what it is you want to do. Offer yourself voluntairly as you will be more likely to get accepted by them, (you never know they may offer you some money or a present for working with them). What other courses did you apply for [GOOD ADVICE FOR ANYONE - apply for something other than what you want during application but something you would be interested in doing you can change your mind then upto may wish I'd done different A levels altogether and done dentistry but anyway..].

Have Northumbria given you a conditional offer? If so then cant you work your socks off and get all the extra points you can. Then they might accept you if your only a couple of points short. I dont know how your courses work but If you go up a grade in 2 a levels then thats 40 ucas points.

You sound like you really want to go there and if you dont get in you should do another year at college and get the points you need, because I think you will really regret it if you dont. Dont be put off by your age or what your friends are doing.
  • Can you get UCAS points from other sources? Musical grades count as do some sports qualifications (I have no idea what ones but know some do).
