Jem16 - my solicitor said on the letter that he needed the money 5 working days before completion. But when I queried it, he said that a cheque had to be with him 5 working days before completion to ensure it clears, but I could pay by bankers draft or chaps the working day before.

I chose to pay by chaps in the end and the solicitors have received the money the working day before.

I've posted another thread asking about whether I can claim interest from the solicitor as I have had the final demand through (and it has been paid with the deposit money) and it didn't give me any interest back. The solicitor held £14500 for 10 days and is currently holding £134500 (some of that is the rest of my deposit and my FD mortgage) for 3 days as I'm completing on Monday and it had to be with them on Friday. I feel a bit annoyed as I'm currently paying out £15 a day in interest on a mortgage but have no house and I've worked out the Solicitor is £33 better off with interest from my money. I've decided to write and ask anyway, as they reckon I owe them another £40 as they did the sums wrong.

Sorry just back from a little break in London.

My son phoned the solicitor who didn't know! However a call to the Finance department revealed that the money needs to be in their account on the 16th and date of entry is 18th. So it seems my son was correct in that he wouldn't need to start the BACS transfer until 7 days before date of entry which will allow plenty of time even with the weekend in the way.

The mortgage funds would be requested for the 17th.

I think you should get interest.
