Sky HD has the widest range of HD programmes available of any provider BUUUTT....Freesat is being launched soon with free HD channels.

Personally, I'd wait a couple of months until Freesat is launched to see just exactly what is on offer and make a decision then.

firstly if your tv isnt the full 1080 hd then it is certainly not worth it. there arent a large amount of hd channels at the moment so it maybe better to wait. although if paying an extra tenner doesnt really bother you then maybe just say stuff it and get it.

sony tv's are usually 1080 so I wouldn't worry to much have a google for the manual if you haven't got yours to hand...there are not alot of HD channels no but I for one watch alot of sky one, channel 4, bbc1 and the discovery and national geographics channels so I will benefit from HD although I am waiting until december to get mine as they offered me it for £169 then so am hopeing for the same or a better deal at that time...this year...it's my christmas present to me see...:Danyway the freesat has the same channels or there abouts you wont get any movie channels which sky has just launched its new HD movie channel...but you wont pay a penny more either...I will have to pay £10 amonth extra to have HD so I think considering I was one of the first to get sky+ I'll have sky HD this christmas...why not...anyway you can register your interest on the sky hd website and they will keep sending you up-dates on whats new with HD and any current offers on HD hths....:)anyway why buy a HD tv if you don't want to watch HD content...it's what you bought it for....

    Plans for 2009

it only makes a difference if the programme has been shot in HD. Many (read almost all) are not being shot in HD yet. The BBC are slow to move into HD (ITV are even slower) as most programmes are shot in DigiBeta which is a cheap format that is fantastic quality. If you're planning on watching action sport or some of the discovery/national geographic channels it does look amazing.

However is HD worth it for watching "dancing on ice"? No way. So only consider it if you plan to watch programs actually shot in HD (mainly the sport channels at the moment)

Nothing is broadcast in 1080p (p=progressive) though. All HD broadcasts are in 1080i (i=interlaced) which any TV with the HD Ready logo can show.

As Sky only broadcast in 1080i is 1080p really that useful?

Personally I'd wait, once Freesat is broadcasting it may force Sky to alter their pricing.
