Just wondered if anyone had any good/bad experiences of fitted kitchens? Currently in the process of browsing through all the brochures, so far we've been looking at Wickes, B&Q. Ikea, and Magnet.
Any tips gratefully received!

Magnet are ok,but very expensive.I would try Howdens if they have one nearby...get someone who is in the trade to get the discounts, failing that MFI own howdens, so they may have similar stuff!! Personally I went to the loacl builders merchants, as they had 18mm thick carcasses...Got a great deal, including appliances!!In this trusted place U can erase
Every tear that ever rolled down your weary face
All the time U waste in that paper chase
Is time better spent in these arms of mine0 -
Thanks, hadn't heard of Howdens before, and have found out that there is one nearby, will check it out!0

Jewsons or MFI if you're looking to save money.
There are a lot of custom kitchen manufacturers that do fantastic kitchens but you pay a lot of money for them (start at £10,000 and work your way up)
B&Q you get what you pay for. It's not that cheap and it falls apart in no time.0 -
When we last bought kitchen units about 12 years ago we bought the cheapest units available in John Lewis. They were still infinitely better than anything we saw in Ikea or Wickes at the time. They were also the most helpful when it came to kitchen design and coming up with ideas for odd places. Then of course we moved. Still miss that kitchen, but haven't got round to refurbishing the current one. Current one is Magnet. I would not recommend it.0

I agree with the poster above that the kitchens sold in some of the DIY sheds are not that good.
I would, however, recommend MFI - I've used them before and would certainly use them again. Not far off the cheapest but excellent quality self assembly units with 18mm carcases. You have to watch the offers though, they rotate the best ones around. Keep looking at the prices for the kitchen you want and order when the price looks good to you. Currently 20% off prices (ignore the 'sale' blurb, they have a 365 day per year 'sale').
If you are looking to minimise costs, just get your units from there, get the worktops, sink, etc., from elsewhere.0 -
Hi there.
If you can find a kitchen fitter - then I'd recommend Alaris:
https://www.alarisavenue.com
They are more expensive than Howdens / IKEA / B&Q etc. but they are PROPER quality kitchens, pre-assembled and delivered to your door. They also have designers that will work with you to get the best layout.
I also got my sinks, taps and worktops from them... all of excellent quality.CarQuake / Ergo Digital0 -
We have just fitted an IKEA kitchen - chose them because they have taller wall units and we have a small kitchen. We really like the kitchen (I'm loathed to say it) but whatever you do DO NOT order custom made worktops from them - read my earlier post.
