Brand New Sony Vaio (Faulty?)

Just got back from setting up my Dad's new laptop. Switched it on and had broadband connection working in minutes. Downloaded a few updates so had to rebbot.

Then the problem started. The WLAN light was lit when rebooting but as soon as the desktop had loaded the light went out and therefore couldn't connect to the internet.

Used the cable to connect direct to the modem which worked fine.

Tried to reboot again but same problem with WLAN light and no connection.

Is it a faulty card or have I missed something?
Never had this problem with my Vaio.

Thanks

Double check the internet connection passwords and settings first.

Cheers but you shouldn't have to mess about when it has just come out of the box.

Strange gow it was fine first time round.

But it worked fine using a direct cable so no problem with password.

Make sure you have the wlan port enabled.
Make sure you have all the correct settings for the wlan security access set up (ssid, etc).

Disable the ehternet port and try resolving the wlan without the lan connected.

My Vaio light goes off when the switch at the front is off, when the wlan adapter is disabled.

If it's any help our laptop has had wireless problems since Vista SP1 was released, nothing major, just we have to either turn off/on the wireless switch or let windows "find a solution".
A PITA, but a minor one.

Can I reverse the 'updates' that I let windows carry out?

The problem is if I can't figure it out and I'm pretty IT literate what chance has my Dad got?

I think it may go back anyway as he is just so fed up with it all. (Had problems previously trying to set up his desktop to work wireless. He gave that PC away and bought a laptop !)
