Martin's got me confused?

As I understand it, I get free Caller Line ID, as long as I use BT for my calls. (Does the same also apply to 1571 voice mail too, only free if you use BT?)

Anyway, if I swap to his recommendations, surely BT will come after me for CLI?:money:

If, as suggested, you leave your line rental with BT and CPS your calls via Primus Saver Option 2, you just have to make 6 calls every quarter via BT (1280 prefix) to qualify for free Caller Display and/or 1571 (but please don't use 1571).

As your line rental will include free weekend UK 01/02/03 calls of up to 60 minutes each (BT's Unlimited Weekend Plan), those calls will cost you nothing.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

"Customers who do not make chargeable or inclusive calls with BT will be charged for BT Answer 1571 standard service. Customers who are billed monthly must make at least two chargeable calls with BT in that month (excludes calls made with BT Broadband Talk) or BT will charge (incl. VAT) £1.00 a month for the standard BT Answer 1571 service. Customers who are billed quarterly must make at least six chargeable calls with BT within that quarter or BT will charged (incl. VAT) £3.00 a quarter."

    I personally hate 1571.

    Thanks for that.

However, I have to say I prefer 1571, as it really gets on my nerves when the person I'm try to call is constantly engaged and have no way of leaving a message, especially as they don't have broadband! (too far from the exchange to have broadband)
