Today I had an email from Scottish Power saying they were going to put my monthly payment up by £10.50p. I went into my usual panic as this has happened before but also was determined to deal with it in the same way. I rang them up saying how come they were trying to do this when I was in credit (albeit 28p) at one of the most expensive times of the year, when normally most people are behind and are relying on the summer months to bring them back up again. (Assuming the anniversary date is in the Summer.) Normally placid, I got into a bit of a heated conversation over this, as I was trying to get through to her that by the time August came round I would be well in credit. She then proceeded to tell me that their rules have now changed. Instead of working out what you use over 12 months, they now base it on the last 3 months, for the coming 3 months, even if you are in credit. I told her that I wasn't prepared to pay the extra when I was in credit as the next 3 months would make me in credit further. She then went on to say that in 3 months time my payments would come down drastically. I said I didn't want that, and wanted to pay the same payment each month allowing for any rises/decreases/difference of usage etc. She said they would keep it at the same rate if I rang in, but were very reluctant to keep it at the same rate now. After lots of threats of leaving the company immediately, and drawing attention to the fact I had had no notice of their change of agreement, she caved in.
On a humourous note though: In my rare rage I threatened to report them to Ofcom, only realising much later it was the wrong name! Despite that though it seemed to do the trick.:rotfl:
So watch out S. Power customers, even if you are in credit they will go by the 3 months just gone to re-assess your payments, each quarter, and not wait til your anniversary date.

That sounds like an odd way of doing it, but if they want.

My first though was that they had a price rise in January, so you that would need to be taken into account, how much did you increase from? Is it in line with their price rise?

As I have already stated, they want to put it up 10.50p, when I am still in credit. As the warmer months come in my credit will increase over the summer. Even since the price increase I have been in credit.
