Soap bar or shower gels?

Which is the cheapest option:o ?

  • I use soap in the house as it seems to go further. A bottle of shower gel is say £2 (I can't use value, it hurts my skin, but if I could I would) it lasts me about 2 weeks so that is 14 showers. Whereas - bar of soap three bars for a max £3. 1 bar lasts about a month, so that is 30 showers for £1.

I suppose it really depends on how liberal you are with useage and which brands you are using.
Anyone fancy buying my degree? It will only cost you £18k.

i dont know which is the cheapest but i would guess soap is however i like to use shower gel but have found that if you use one of the nylon bath scrunchie things you only need the tiniest amount and also im a lush addict but have found that their bubble bath bars work really well as a soap on the scrunchies and lasts a lot longer

thanks - didn't think of using the bubble bars as soap! I only have a shower not a bath so don't get to use them.

I prefer shower milk - the Aldi one isn't bad but a small bottle. Shower gel goes a lot further if you just use a drop ona scrunchie - it all foams up and its good for exfoliating at the same time!

I used to prefer shower gels (you can even do your hair with the better ones) but now its soap - soap, if you don't let it dissolve at the bottom of the tub or get too slimey sitting on your sink for too long, will last longer by far and you can get a good enough lather to wash yourself up with a puff/loafer-type-thing.

I am currently using home made soaps, once you get started up making your own things it pays for itself. I don't make mine personaly but a close friend is constantly churning them out in all kinds of yummy and ethical varieties. The larger the scale you make them on, the lower the cost of the individual unit - yes she could also make shower gels, but we've worked out that soaps are better!
  • Tesco do some single soap bars for around 23p. I use the aloe vera version which I think is great and lathers really well, my friend used it one time she stayed over and commented on how much she liked it too. :)

Bars of soap definitely last longer than shower gel. The best thing to do is use up all the Christmas toiletries you got before you spend on different ones.

jessica_rabbit and egghi the only thing i will say about the bubble bars is keep them somewhere dry inbetween uses also if you use the bath bombs break them to a powder and sprinkle some into the bath they last longer this way aswell this also works well with the bubble bars so you can still have a bubble bath with them too what i usually do is cut the bubble bars in half crumble one and use the other as a soap

  • I used to use tesco's shower gel for 75p for 500ml i think? and that would last about 2 weeks. I brought some cussons soap for 76p for 4 bars back in Feb and I'm just finishing the second bar.

At the moment it's just me using the soap as DS has tons of Lynx shower gel given to him ar xmas that he's using up.

So soap is definatley cheaper than shower gel, only downside is my skin is slightly drier than before. But I will continue buying soap.
