Greenhouse – When can I put plug plants in.

Not until the possibility of frost is over.If you must put them out be prepared to have some heat available as fleece is not quite good enough.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

I live in York. I certainly wouldn`t put Geraniums in a greenhouse at the moment.Frost would wipe them out overnight in an unheated greenhouse.
I ordered geraniums from Jersey and they arrived a couple of weeks ago.I expected
then to be delivered say in early May or thereabouts.
So I have transplanted them into larger containers and taken them to work. They now
abide on the window shelves and are doing very nicely. They don`t upset anybody by
being there and the company keeps our working enviroment at a decent temperature.0 -
I disagree. I have mine in an unheated greenhouse and successfully overwinter them without issues. I do cover with fleece if we get a really bad night but I haven't lost any yet.3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

i have had seeds and seedling outside in my unheated greenhouse now for 6 weeks and the greenhouse ones grew better than the ones inside.
Protect them at night though and i think they should be okay0 -
I have had three cuttings of geraniums out in my unheated greenhouse all through the winter. They all seem to be doing fine and I have never done anything special just left them to it. I have other plants that I keep in there when I'm overwintering and they're all fine too. In fact my lilies are thriving.Did owe £9,951.96
Now helping hubby pay off loan. Finally paid off :j

plug plants will not like it outside yet, I would wait till at least the end of April. I will be putting 'plant out plug plants' for my May thread if the weather looks OK. You won't get bigger plants by putting them out earlier. If you are itching to do something look at the 'jobs to do in April' thread for ideas
Lots of plants can over winter in a greenhouse if they go in from the end of summer, that way they slowly adjust to the temperature changes.
Everyones greenhouse will be different temperatures, depends on the size and location of it, and of course, the severity of winter.0 -
Thanks, with 30 geranium plug size plants on the windowsill and the tomato seeds there as well the girlfriend keeps asking when can they GO in the greenhouse!
Will wait till the end of April and then see then.

I have got a greenhouse for the first time this year and we have planted all our seeds this weekend, we bought a small paraffin heater from B &Q (cost approx £25 including the paraffin) and have lit that, it warms it just enough to take off the chill - I am in West Yorks so not far from you!0
