Disgusted to receive a 40% increase in my premium for breakdown cover from AA, £141) so did a bit of research.
As a Direct line Car Insurance customer I visited their website, and they quoted £75.60. Then rang Direct Line to see if I could obtain a better discount because I had car insurance with them. They offered me the same cover for £70.35, saving £5.25.
Then decided to try the Green Flag website (GReen Flag is owned by Direct Line) and for exactly the same cover, they quoted me £60.90:T
When I spoke to Direct Line themselves, the guy in the call centre agreed that he couldn;t beat Green Flag's quote. And he pointed out two extras:
1. Both companies claim to be with you within an average of 40 minutes. GReen Flag will pay £10 if they can't make it in under and hour - Direct Line don't offer this.
2. Both companies offer courtesy car on the Recovery Plus option - Direct Line offer it for 24 hours, Green Flag offers it for 48 hours!
So today I've managed to save £80, and got Direct Line to admit that one of their existing companies offers a better deal!
