Hi MO1, Yes, OK thanks, was offered temporary the other day but they have given us another alternative as they are really trying to make the hostel a last resort for us (it is better now I know they are trying to help us - I just get a lot more sleep at night) so when we met the homeless officer on Thurs she is going to try and get us more 'housing points' which would mean we are more or less guarenteed housing if we apply for something (from the Choiced Based Lettings List). It's just that there is nothing to choose. I asked if I could choose somewhere that would help us temporarily (a one bed for example) until something else came up and was told no, they would only let me have a 3 bedroom house. The extra points would last a month and we should not be 'choosy' - how can you be choosy when there is nothing to choose from though? Because of my son's situation their doctor said we 'need' a 3 bedroom and so I said to the council if a 2 bed came up with a downstairs reception that can be turned into a bedroom then I would apply but they told me that I would not be allowed to choose a 2 bed and it was 3 bed only so my choice would be disallowed. Kind of confusing.
I forgot to mention, has your sister called the council and asked for the Homeless Department? These are the ones who will assess her but she, like us, will have to go into a hostel more than likely. If she doesn't then she, like us, will not be seen as needing anything.
If you wanted to keep up to date with my situation I have been posting stuff as it happens. Click on my name and then 'Other Posts' and you'll be able to see. Much too much to hijack your thread with
Also, if you choose 'User CP' at the top of the thread you'll be able to click into this to see when anything you have posted on has been updated to save trawling through (sorry if you already knew this).
PN, Sister is 23 and is unable to get up and down stairs so has to be a ground floor place. She will have the same problems as us with renting privately in that the Sister will claim Housing Benefit (or whatever it is called now) and many LA will now not rent to people on HB/not working.0
