I use it as per normal meat (I use Quorn) so I would add 150g

My Spag' Bol' and Chilli Con Carne recipes specify 500g of minced meat, and the vegetarian option is a 150g pack of soya mince or Protoveg Burgamix, made up as per the instructions.

So, as is seems to swell up approximately threefold, and you have a 150g shortfall, I'd make up 50g.

You can always make up another little batch. Re-dehydrating it if you make too much could be trickier!

I bought some of this in Sainsburys last week, not used it yet but on the packet it says the 200g will make 800g when hydrated so I guess you use a quarter of whatever you want the end weight to be - let us know how you get on as I want to make a Cottage Pie tomorrow so shall be breaking open the pack then.

Stephen & scotsaver - is this dehydrated stuff then? I only use Quorn because I know it. Is the other one cheaper?

Hi Skintcatt - I've bought a 200g Bag of Dried Soya Mince, it's Sainsburys own brand and it was 52p. Never bought it before but read about soya mince on the Grocery Challenge thread and thought I would give it a try.

I read the OP as saying that it's dried/dehydrated. I've never used the stuff myself. Mind you, I do sometimes suspect that I may be getting too much red meat at times and that it might be making me a bit "frisky"!

PS. But being "frisky" is so much fun!
