Is gas price really that high?
I moved into my flat back in mid Dec last year. The meter reading was 0655, I checked it today and it is 1165. I called up EDF energy today to get an approximate of my bill which is due in a few days, I was told that it would be 159+vat
I do not use much gas to heat the water, maybe 30 mins the boiler is on in the morning and have the heater on for a few hours in the evening. During the day there is no use.
My electricy is about right for what I use, since Dec I have used about £65 worth.
Can the gas meter go faulty where its going to fast and bumping up the reading?? Something dodgy is going on, that amout is not normal, even considering price rises.

You appear to have used approx 5795 kWh over that period and your bill suggests that you are paying approx 2.7p per kWh + VAT.

Very unlikely to be a meter fault and your price seems about right. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
.................
Dual Fuel from EDF Energy
Unit prices
Gas 4.183p per kWh 2.630p per kWh above 5860 kWh p.aElectricity 16.98p per kWh 10.35p per kWh above 900 kWh p.a
These are the prices, but I really cannot understand why its so high. My neighbours who live upstairs have the same property and have 4 people in the house inc a baby so the mother is always in the home during the day.
I am just a single person, so why it is so high god knows.. I am sick of being ripped off. First it was the water company who wanted 360 per year (thames water) in london area. I had to fight them for a water meter.0 -
How much would you expect to pay for your gas during the highest consumption quarter of the year? It makes no difference that you are living on your own, it costs the same to heat a property for one as it does for four or ten for that matter! I don't think that you are being 'ripped off'! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

The answer is YES!! I am awaiting my gas bill now and I have worked it out to be approx £250.(although I have my heating on more than you). You may find that £159+ is the going rate, but check to see if you could save by switching.0 -
The average household spends 20,500 kWh of Gas pa; the major part of that is in the winter.
Bear in mind that the average household spends over £1,000 pa on gas and electricty.
You have used less than 6,000kWh in three and a half months in the period where we have the heaviest consumption; so you look like using well below average consumption - probably around 15,000kWh or less.
Your price per kWh is reasonable - although you can do better.
As espresso states you are certainly not being 'ripped off' and your costs are modest.0 -
I have ditched gas. About a year ago after being with BG for gas and electric my monthly DD were 50 gas and 40 electric. OK I live on my own and don't live in a modern energy efficient house but i do have double glazing all round. The reason I ditched gas was my combi boilers heat exchanger failed and found it wasnt covered under BG homecare. Made the choice after getting quotes for supply and fit a new combi which came in between 1500 to 3500 and reading the average lifetime of a combi is about 10 years.
Anyhow when I phoned up BG to remove my meter and cap my gas main I asked what my DD recalculation was a combined 110/month based on my 3 year account.
So far my lekky bill for heating, cooking, general use and hot water in winter is about 120.00 but this will drop off soon when the warmer weather comes so I guess my lekky bull in summer/autumn should be about 50/month.
Just beware, from what I hear the average household energy bill is about 100.00/month.0
