cheap Car Data Check anyone?

Hi all
I am thinking of buying a second hand car soon
and would want a car data check on it done(to check its not been stolen written off etc)
anyone know where you can get one cheap...or even free ???

You could try going to http://www.carcheckuk.com

Here they offer a basic history check for just £1.50 via text message when you send the car registration number.

The information only includes the following:

Make and model of car
VIN number (last 4 digits)
Engine size
Number of owners
If it has been scrapped, stolen and imported

If you want further information such as if the car is under HP this costs extra. To shop around for the best price on more in-depth history reports i would visit http://www.parkers.co.uk/buying/datacheck/ where you can compare quite a few of them starting from £9.99

There's a really basic check that lets you find out if the car's registered and taxed here...
