How much do you pay for duel fuel?

Hi all :)

I'm being terribly nosy and asking how much do you pay per month for gas and electricity? I recently bought my first home and don't have a benchmark to go off as to whether I'm being good or wasteful :) I pay £27 per month for both. How about you? Obviously, feel free not to give a figure if you don't want to :)

But does this £27 per month cover your actual usage? (Unlikely) What is more important is that you read your meters and check that you are paying enough each month to cover the monthly consumption measured in kWh. Easy calculation when you know your actual usage.

  • Espresso, yes it does - My bill came out yesterday and I'm still £80 in credit. I WAS paying £46 per month, so built up lots of credit.

OK so the £27 is actually an unreal figure, due to your account being in credit. I always work out the DD amount for myself, to cover my previous annual usage and then tell them what I will pay each month. They won't argue if the sums are correct!

  • Thanks, espresso :) Unfortunately I have nothing to compare it to - this is my first year living alone. I'll see how I get along though, thanks :T

Just recieved an email from Scottish power , they have just put up my dual fuel to £150 per month:mad: They had to refund me nearly £500 last year (November) as they were over charging me.
Never pay more than you have too

I have ditched gas. About a year ago after being with BG for gas and electric my monthly DD were 50 gas and 40 electric. OK I live on my own and don't live in a modern energy efficient house but i do have double glazing all round. The reason I ditched gas was my combi boilers heat exchanger failed and found it wasnt covered under BG homecare. Made the choice after getting quotes for supply and fit a new combi which came in between 1500 to 3500 and reading the average lifetime of a combi is about 10 years.

Anyhow when I phoned up BG to remove my meter and cap my gas main I asked what my DD recalculation was a combined 110/month based on my 3 year account.

So far my lekky bill for heating, cooking, general use and hot water in winter is about 120.00 but this will drop off soon when the warmer weather comes so I guess my lekky bull in summer/autumn should be about 50/month.

Just beware, from what I hear the average household energy bill is about 100.00/month. If its cheaper you're quids in, if its more its less of a blow.

Dont go overspending until you're account has settled down ;)
