    Hi depressed of lincolnshire

If you have done a Balance Transfer (BT) to your Virgin credit card, can you confirm the amount you have to pay.

Ie. Is it the 3% of the balance or £25 each month, for as long as the BT offer lasts.

If it is the £25 a month, people could save a lot of money each month for the twelve or fifteen months the offer lasts for. That could make the difference between someone surviving long enough to get out of trouble or having to file for bankruptcy.

That is assuming it was not too let for them to get the Virgin card in the first place.

    Hi dawnybabes

So you and Jelly Babies have BT’s with Virgin and you both paid the BT fee the first month and then just £25 each month after that.

That is great, I now have two separate people that have had this and that means I can recommend the Virgin card to people, as a way to reduce their outgoings temporarily.

If they can get it and with a high enough limit, it could free up enough money for them to be able to make ends meet. That will give them a year to sort out their finances.

That is not strictly true, you might not have anyone that will lend you the 5K, I am assuming that you have already asked if you can extend the family loan by £5,000 but you have assets that are worth over £5,000.

The Caravan is worth £7,500. Selling it would pay off the debt and leave £2,500 for holidays/breaks over the next few years.

The car is worth £7,000. Selling the car and buying another one for £1,800 would leave you with enough to pay back the £5,000.

You have shares and bonds worth around £3,000. Cashing them in and paying a lump sum off the £5,000 might be enough for them at the moment.

If not, you have other assets worth £6,000. You could sell some or all of them to pay back the other £2,000 or the whole £5,000.

Therefore, you are not in the poo but you do have a difficult decision to make. If you did not have assets that you can liquidate and use to pay off the £5,000 then you would be in the poo.

Have you tried Payplan or CCCS or that National Debt line, they may be able to advise you some more??
