Revised Direct Debit: Can I ask for it to go back to what it was?

Hi all,
Hopefully someone can help me. Scottish Power have just emailed me to say they are putting my direct debit up by £6 per month...not a lot, but I'm already in credit with them by over £80, I really don't WANT to give them more money per month when what I'm paying already covers my usage just fine. Can I call them and ask them to put it back to what it was?
And does anyone know if I can do this by email? 0845 numbers are getting expensive when you're kept on hold as long as they like to, haha.

It really depends how that credit of £80 is shown.
If you look at your account on-line you can get a false picture. This is because all DD credits are shown immediately but your bills are only debited quarterly.
e.g. I could be showing today as £200 in credit, but tomorrow I get a £300 bill debited and I am shown as £100 in debit.
However if your latest and recent bill shows you to be £80 in credit, then you have good ground for disputing the rise in DD. Also sending an email is better.0 -
Thanks, Cardew
My bill came out yesterday, so the £80 credit is there AFTER the bill has been taken out. 0
