Can I do a chargeback??

in Credit cards
The story is I ordered a DVD from DVD soon a week ago. Yesterday I got an email to say my order has been cancelled due to a new system they are implemeting.
They have put my credit card payment as a non-refundable credit on my account that can (a) only be used for gooods (not shipping) and (b) can only be used for 25% of the value of the order. I'm not amused!
Would this fit the chargeback criteria? Does it matter that it was a foreign transaction? I gave credit card payment to pay for a DVD, not for a credit (that not much use) on my DVD soon account.

In short yes under non delivered goods, well thats what Mint said to me when I phoned to ask for one. Everybody who is in this situation is doing the same.
Apparently it's easier to do with VISA than it is with Mastercard.Never argue with an idiot. He will bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Credit card companies are only legally liable for breaches of contract on purchases over £100 (Section 75 consumer credit act). Certainly doesn't do any harm to ask. Good Luck.:idea:I got an idea, an idea so smart my head would explode if I even began to know what I was talking about:idea:0

If it was for over £100, then yes you can recover the amount from the credit card company under Section 75 of the UK consumer credit act. However, there is debate over whether this applies to foreign transactions.
But, VISA has its own rules to protect card holders for non-delivery of goods too, where a £100 threashold does not apply.
You need to contact your credit card company. They should try and recover the funds for you. If they can't, I suspect they will perform a chargeback to the bankers of whoever you ordered it from.0 -
My company is a credit card merchant.
According to our merchant account providers if there is no signature there is no transaction so any customer not present transaction can be charged back for any reason.
The issue is whether the individual card issuer is willing to do it.
SImply there not being a signature is enough.
We get customers who use our services for years paying monthly and then charge back the whole lot.
The 6 month period for chargebacks does not apply to recurring transactions.
Fortunately the card companies are tightening up and it is making it more difficult for this sort of card holder fraud (ad it is known in the trade).
Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.0 -
Sorry to hijack your thread but on a side point, is there such a thing as a chargeback when it comes to "switch" debit cards?Ive recently been a victim of debit card fraud where my card was used over the internet. The bank are currently investigating- So hopefully once this is resolved I will get my money back - now will it be the bank who pays out or will they reclaim the money from the company in question like a "chargeback" Thanks0

Spoke to Nationwide who said I need to fill out forms & get it investigated.
I still don't believe that DVDsoon (which I have used beofre & had no issues with) is now using such dodgy practices!0 -
