problem with the 'width' of my new laptop screen

A couple of weeks ago I stepped on my laptop screen. The result was not pretty!
Finally got it fixed today.
Working fine but the 'width' of what I view using, e.g. firefox or IE has been reduced. The BBC news website is narrower with two white columns on either side. The shortcut icons in my firefox toolbar are bunched together now while on the previous screen they were spread from one side of the screen to the other.
Any advice how I change this?
I'm running Vista and its a Vaio.

Well you can rule out the BBC news website, as they redesigned it to be like that yesterday!
Is it a widescreen laptop? Try 1024x800? or 1024x768 if not.A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.0 -

Is that that your resolution has changed or that Firefox's appearance has? If the latter, then you can just right click the tool bar, select customise and then add flexible spaces between the icons and/or move search box, etc. to other lines until it looks like you want it to.0
