    Look away Gingham.....

At Christmas, I bought some (reduced price) prunes soaked in Armangnac (sp) which were then wrapped in smoked streaky bacon secured with a mini skewer. They were a real hit.

Judging by the amount of mentions prune juice gets on the Slimming World thread, I would puree them, dilute it a bit, bottle the stuff and flog it as a slimming aid. :rotfl:

They're lovely stewed up in water or fruit juice, then on top of porrige.

I have a flapjack recipe where you put half the mix into the tin, then cover with fresh plums or apple slices, etc, then top with the rest of the FJ mix and bake. The stewed prunes would do well there, too, possibly mixed with chopped apple.

I love prunes, and just eat them as a snack.

Melt some dark chocolate. Dip prunes in, place on a sheet of greaseproof and refrigerate. Scoff.

Chop up small and use in fruit cake -makes cakes lovely and moist.

They are delicious stuffed with a little chutney and wrapped in streaky bacon. I made these for ann appetiser at Christmas to precede a roast goose. They are called Devils on horseback. Not much good for veggies though.

This version might work for you tho Ginghamribbon, when veggie guests came i wrapped presoaked sundried toms round the prunes and baked them.

I've got a stuffing recipe (freezable) that includes dried prunes if anyone is interested?

I do something similar to Thriftlady - but I stuff them with almond paste and then dip them in dark chocolate. Leave to set and they're fab with a cup of coffee - often serve them as part of a 'plate of chocolate thing' I sometimes do if I have people round for food.

    In museli/porridge they add sweetness.

    Second the chocolate cake suggestions.

PMSL - I was wondering whether to mention the SW thread. Should we warn them not to drink a whole bottle???  :o
  • Just seen you are veggie so no good for you but this recipe is great for any non veggies, makes a nice dinner party dish as you can do it the day before and the favours improve overnight (+ you can skim the fat off the top before reheating it). I don't know what 'tamarind water' is so I just use 1 teaspoon of tamarind paste (most supermarkets sell the Barts one, small jar is about 70p) and I use diced lamb (shoulder) as it's easier and cheaper than leg.

Lamb with prunes, chilli, coriander and spice mix
