  • Average pressures for a small hatchback are:

    front 32 psi (power steering)
front 34 psi (no power steering)
    rear 28 psi

There will be manufacturers recommended pressures, but they will be assuming that you have the same type of tyres from new

does it make a difference for different wheel sizes and tyre thicknesses?

It should say the pressures on the tyre, otherwise many firms actually print the pressures on a label somewhere on the car (maybe inside the fuel filler flap?). Alternatively if you go to a garage to sort the air there is almost always a sign up that shows the pressures for specific tyres.

    HTH.
if it's more than 10 stone, and that hairy, it's probably not a dog...it may be a wookie.
  • All pressures for tyres are advised by the vehicle manufacturer rather than the tyre manufacturer. Many car designers will come up with totally different pressures to suit their vehicles and their desired handling characteristics. There will have been a great deal of testing to come up to these conclusions. The pressures in tyres act as part of the vehicles suspension design therefore contributing to handling, stability, ride etc.
Contrary to popular belief pressures are not only advised based on the weight of the vehicle. You should find advised pressures for your tyres in your owners handbook or somewhere on the car i.e. door panel.

I had 4 Dunlops replaced on my Hatchback but Kwik Fit only inflated the tyres to 27 each. However, after contacting Nissan and Dunlop, I was told to use the pressures listed in my door panel which are 32 (front) and 35 (back).

    Hope this helps

Do you mean you are gettin "56" from here:

If you are then that's not your psi

  • Out of interest, why do the tyres sidewalls state psi numbers and what does it mean?
