Car hire for a 21 year old - Possible? Best Deals?

I have agreed to take a group of friends to the local airport and pick them up again when they go on holiday (for a small 'petrol' charge. xD). At the time of agreeing, my mother had a large peugeot (306? 307? Get confused with all the numbers!) but unfortunatly that car has now been written off after a bus smashed into it (ouch), and my mother has downsized to a 3-door Kia! Not big enough for 5 adults + luggage!

So I'm now considering hiring a car and splitting the cost between the 5 of us - However, my father is a little confused as to whether at the age of 21 I can hire a car, or if I have to wait 'till I'm 25, and having never done it before I have no idea!!

I turned 21 at the end of dec, and have been driving for 2 and a half years. No claims, no accidents and no criminal convictions. Any idea on what kind of deals I can get?

You know what id do, id call up/check website of 4 rental companies ad find out about the age you need to be to rent a car

for europcar and national its over 21 so theyre site says

at most enterprise locations it says u need to 21 years old or older

didnt take long to find that out,

Thats not the whole story. National and Europcar add a surcharge onto drivers between aged 21-22. As do most of the other car rental companies, so it is possible for 21 year olds to rent a car, it is more expensive than for a 23 year old to do so.
